Discuss the Following:

1. Discuss Comprehensively the Eight Millennium Development Goals?

● Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

To assess the problem of poverty and hunger through implementing various
programs. If we eradicate these, many people can create and find more
opportunities in that way, it will also reflect the economy of their country in
which it will help the economy to develop.
● Achieve universal primary education
Primary Schools provide the best learning environment for your child: Primary
Schools pave the path for traditional learning. Apart from the child learning basic
physical and mental activities, primary schools focus on internal growth too. If
we achieve this goal, other issues and problems that we are facing can be
solved.
● Promote gender equality and empower women
We must promote our rights in our society even if you are a man or a woman,
you have your own rights. Gender equality prevents violence against women and
men. It's essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men
as equal are safer and healthier.
● Reduce child mortality
Reducing child mortality may also help to assess the problem of mother’s health.
Since the risk of infant death, which leads to shorter birth intervals, is associated
with the mother's reproductive history, women with child mortality experience
are more likely to experience shorter intervals because of the biological effect of
subsequent infant death.
● Improve maternal health
Good maternal health care and nutrition are important contributors to child
survival. Improving maternal health is a fundamental human right and a crucial development
issue that is part of the Development Goals, which sets a target to reduce maternal deaths.
Stronger maternal health is essential to reducing poverty, ensuring healthy lives , achieving
gender equality, and underpins many other global goals.
● Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria & other diseases
Fighting against HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases will lessen the threat to
the lives of millions of people around the globe. As these diseases also hamper economic growth
and international development. They not only bring tragedy to one person but to the entire
community and country as well. We must do something about how we will combat it,as we will
save not only our life, but also others.
● Ensure environmental sustainability
All human beings depend on the environment in which we live. A safe, clean,
healthy and sustainable environment is integral to the full enjoyment of human rights, including
the rights to life, health, food, water and sanitation. Without a healthy environment, we are
unable to fulfil our aspirations. Sustainability improves the quality of our lives, protects our
ecosystem and preserves natural resources for future generations.
● Develop a global partnership for development
International support is important for strengthening skills in communities around
the world. In global partnership, we can address the special needs of the least developed
countries. We can help each other to achieve our goal for development at the same time we can
strengthen our relationship and promote peace.

2. How the Eight Millennium Development Goals implemented in the Philippine explain individually.
Cite instances in the Philippine scenarios.

● Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

The government has implemented various programs and reforms to reduce poverty by
targeting education, healthcare and the overall economy. Here are some implemented
ways to reduce poverty:
❖ Greater Access to Education- the Philippines signed the Universal Access
to Quality Tertiary Education Act in 2017 to encourage more people to
enroll in higher education and to address the issue of education
inequality. The government subsidizes the cost of tuition for State
Universities and Colleges (SUCs) students as well as other expenses such
as school supplies. Private institutions also have access to a tuition
subsidy.
❖ Greater Access to Healthcare-President Duterte signed the Universal
Healthcare Act in February 2019.While healthcare is not completely free,
those in poverty will have more access to health services.
❖ Family Aid- The government implemented the Pantawid Pamilyang
Pilipino Program (4Ps) in 2007. The program gives households grants so
long as they meet certain requirements, including keeping the children in
school, having regular health check-ups and having parents or guardians
attend Family Development Sessions.
❖ Economic Improvement: With the goal of reducing poverty by
strengthening economics, President Duterte signed the Rice Tariffication
Law.The tariff also aims to benefit local farmers by creating a more
efficient and competitive agricultural system.
● Achieve universal primary education
❖ The government has introduced a conditional cash transfer (CCT)
programme to try to tackle the problem. Subsidies are given to the most
needy families on the condition their children attend school and regularly
go to health centres. Distance learning, free school meals and child-
centred learning techniques in the Philippines are pushing the country
closer to the goal of universal primary education.
❖ During my elementary days, we have a program where students were
given food and sometimes a merienda. There are some students who
are part of 4Ps.
● Promote gender equality and empower women
❖ Despite a favorable policy environment – the Philippines is signatory to
international human rights instruments and has successfully enacted
policies and laws for the protection and promotion of women’s rights -
the implementation of policies appears uneven and slow. In the
Philippines, UNDP fosters human development for peace and prosperity.
Working with central and local Governments as well as civil society, and
building on global best practices, UNDP strengthens capacities of
women, men and institutions to empower them to achieve the
Millennium Development Goals and the objectives of the Philippine Mid-
term Development Plan. GABRIELA and MAGNA CARTA OF WOMEN are
examples of organizations that protect women.
● Reduce child mortality
❖ Save the Children Philippines has advocated the enactment of the First
1,000 Days to fulfill the rights of every child to survive, to grow healthy,
and to have a future. Also, they are calling for the effective
implementation of Republic Act No. 11148 “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng
Mag-Nanay Act” that provides life-saving healthcare, services, and
resources to pregnant and lactating mothers and newborn babies to
fulfill the rights of every child to health and survival, protection, and
development. A baby was reportedly born underweight and has weak
lungs. She/he has the right to get access to proper health and nutrition,
including breastmilk, even if his/her mother is a person deprived of civil
liberty.
● Improve maternal health
❖ The government promotes maternal health through a two-pronged
strategy that involves providing health services to pregnant women
which is safe motherhood, and providing family planning services.
● Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria & other diseases
❖ The Philippine government has confronted the problem of HIV/AIDS
aggressively with an action plan that includes an emphasis on the
response of the local government agencies, involvement and support of
nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), incorporation of HIV/AIDS
education into the school curriculum, and laws forbidding discrimination
against persons with HIV/AIDS or belonging to risk groups.
● Ensure environmental sustainability
❖ The Philippines is one of the countries most affected by climate change.
The Philippine government enacted the Climate Change Act or Republic
Act 9729 to ensure climate resilience, build a low-carbon economy, and
increase the country’s role in the global climate change dialogue. This
act led to the establishment of the Climate Change Commission, which
oversees the country’s sustainability goals and since then various laws
and policies have been implemented to promote ecological conservation
programs and increase environmental awareness.

● Develop a global partnership for development

❖ We’ve been engaging in some programs that tackle partnership. The
Philippines joined the Partnership for Growth (PFG) Program, a bilateral
engagement between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the
United States Government (USG). Its primary objective is to address the
binding constraints to economic growth and development in the
Philippines. It also provided support for trade and investment-related
policy reforms needed to improve Philippine readiness to qualify in other
trade agreements like Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

3. What is the Concept of Global Economy?

● Global economy has something to do with economic transactions between nations. This
helps to connect the region and the nation in order to have a system of economic
relationship. When we are talking about relationships it involves exchange of goods and
services, financial flows across borders, exchanging different nations' currencies,
movement of people in search of better standards of living.

4. Make Concrete example of the growth of fair trade in the Philippine Market? Create instances
either international trade or local trade Market.

● The Community Crafts Association of the Philippines is one of the oldest fair-trade
organizations in the Philippines. Since 1973, CCAP has been marketing handicrafts for
marginalized Filipino artisans. CCAP assists community-based enterprises to become
effectively organized and self-reliant by providing them with training programs,
organizational development and markets for their products. The artisans use locally
sourced fibers like bamboo, coconut, and other grasses to weave their quality products.
● Community Crafts Association of the Philippines, Inc. (CCAP) make the second edition of
its trademark advocacy trade festival, Lokalakalan 2019: Kabuhayan, Kababaihan,
Kalikasan, A Fair Trade and Social Enterprise Festival to Celebrate Women. The trade
festival will feature locally-made handicrafts and food products from several Fair Trade
and Social Enterprise brands in the country.
