Week 3-4, Quarter I
Part I. Written Works
Written Task 1: Read the statement carefully. Write E if the statement is about Ethnocentrism then CR if it states about
Cultural Relativism. Write your answer in a sheet of paper.

1. Promotes greater appreciation of cultures that an individual might encounter along the way.
2. The function and meaning of a trait are relative to its cultural setting.
3. They make false judgement on other cultures.
4. They tend to compare other people ways based on values and standards.
5. A belief that cultures are equally complex.
6. Understand individual’s beliefs and activities in terms of person’s own culture.
7. Its a good way to rehearse the norms and values of a society.

Written Task 2. Analyze the situations below. Identify who act the Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism then defend
your answer on why you choose your answer.
1. Justine is Muslim while John is Catholic. John laugh at Justine way of dress and his way of praying. Justine ignore his
actions and how John dressed-up.
2. Jana and Julia are best friend. They decided eat on a Fast food chain in the nearby area. Jana is from Mangyan tribe
while Julia is Manobo. When they reached the restaurant, the guard caught their attention and never allowed them to
enter the restaurant.
3. Ana Jane considered as a Miss congeniality in their classroom because she never see anyone as different, she treated
them all as a siblings while Andrea has few friends because she discriminate her classmates.

Part II. Performance Task

Performance task 1: Using Venn Diagram, compare and contrast the Ethnocentric to cultural relativism. Write your
answer at the back of your yellow paper.

Performance task 2: Answer the following questions direct to the point then elaborate your answer. (5-points each)
1. What can you say about the way of your life in terms of values, beliefs and traditions?
2. What can you say about the ways of Ethnocentrism?
3. As a person, which do you consider yourself? An Ethnocentrism? Or cultural relativism?
4. How can you control people under the Ethnocentrism and in what way?

Performance Task 3. Create a short role playing script where ethnocentrism and cultural relativism were possessed. You
may use your separate sheet of paper for your output. (20 points)
