Introduction and Theory

Air Conditioning Cycle

The phase conversion process is carried out by a specific substance in all air-conditioning
systems. This substance is known as a refrigerant, and it is housed within tubing that flows
throughout the HVAC system. After exiting the evaporator coil, the refrigerant is pushed into the
system's compressor as a warm vapor. The compressor increases the density of the incoming
refrigerant vapor, causing it to grow in pressure and temperature. A centrifugal system is used to
do this, in which a set of spinning blades rapidly propel the vapor to the outside of the
compressor chamber, where it leaves. The hot, high-pressure vapor then goes to the condenser of
the air conditioner, where it passes through a series of coils with thin metal fins. Heat travels
from the refrigerant to the fins and into the air stream when a fan blows air over them, similar to
how a radiator removes heat from the coolant cycling within a car engine. The air blown over the
condenser coils is vented to the outside of the building and released into the atmosphere.

What is a psychrometric chart?
The psychrometric processes of air are represented graphically in a psychrometric chart. Physical
and thermodynamic parameters such as dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature, humidity,
enthalpy, and air density are all part of psychrometric processes.
There are two ways to use a psychrometric chart. The first method involves plotting many data
points on a chart that indicate the air conditions at a certain time. Then, overlaid on top of that, a
zone that denotes the "comfort zone." The comfort zone is defined as the temperature range in
which inhabitants are content with their surroundings. It's easy to show how passive design
methods can extend the comfort zone after charting the air conditions and overlaying the comfort
zone.
What is Humidification Process?
Humidification is the process of adding moisture, water vapor, or humidity to the air without
affecting the temperature of the dry bulb (DB). This process is depicted on the psychrometric
chart by a straight vertical line starting at the initial relative humidity value, extending upwards,
and ending at the final relative humidity value. Because humidification is constantly
accompanied by cooling or heating of the air, a pure humidification process is not conceivable in
practice. In a variety of air conditioning applications, the humidification process is employed in
conjunction with cooling or heating. Let's have a look at how these processes are derived and
shown on the psychrometric chart. Psychrometric processes such as humidification, cooling and
humidification, and heating and humidification are described in this article. The article explains
how these operations are accomplished and depicted on a psychrometric chart.
