Reaction Paper
The topic UNIT !:Meaning Of Administration And Supervision was reported by
Ma’am Flor Amor. The reporter tackled nine topics under this unit. These topics were delivered
by the reporter smoothly and easily to comprehend. In the first topic, she discussed the difference
between Administration and Supervision. I have understand that Administration emphasizes
authority and concerned with managing different departments, ensuring that goals are achieved
while Supervision emphasizes service and concerned in a group of people towards delivery of
specific goals.
For the second topic, Types of Administration and Supervision were introduced which
are the Democratic and Autocratic. Democratic is one that gives the subordinates equal chance of
participating in the decision-making process as to what is to be done and how it is to be done
while Autocratic is one of the styles, which encompasses centralization of the decision making
power. The third topic is all about Interrelationship of Administration and Supervision. It is said
that effective learning, which is the fundamental aim of supervision, could not be accompanied
under inefficient administration and though the administration and supervision are interrelated,
there are still differences between the two positions.
The fourth topic is the Scope of Administration and Supervision. The two have different
functions to those scopes. The Administration decides, directs, and orders the execution of the
educational program. While the Supervision assists, advises, and leads the operation and
improvement of the educational system. The fifth topic spoke about was the Traditional and
Modern Concept of Administrative and Supervision. It is based on the philosophy that the
teacher is the center of administration and supervisory activities. The traditional concept of
supervision puts more emphasis upon imposed improvement of the teachers through teacher
training and rigid supervision. The modern concept of supervision recognizes the child and his
growth and development as the center of supervisory activities. It focuses mainly on
improvement of learning process.
The sixth topic approached was the Development of Concept in Administration and
Supervision in the Philippines. It was said that in the early days, administration and supervision
were inspectoral in character and the methods used were dictatorial and coercive. At present,
administration and supervision are considered as an expert technical service primarily concerned
with studying, improving and evaluating teaching-learning situations and the condition that
affect them.
Improving School Administration and Supervision is the seventh topic. To provide
quality education requires effective management of the human and material resources in the
industry. Supervision, which is a component of education administration, is equally fundamental
if the goals of the system will be realized. Educational administration and supervision is a
dynamic, which does not remain fixed but constantly shifting, changing and growing because of
the continuous change of the society.
For the eight topic, Teacher’s Need for Administration and Supervision was focused. By
introducing supervision into the teaching profession on a more systemic and sustainable basis, it
has the potential to contribute towards addressing two of the significant challenges facing the
profession currently, namely, teacher wellbeing and retention. According to the reporter here are
what the teacher need for administration and supervision: the teacher should encourage
collaboration, empower teachers, protect teacher’s time, model expected behavior and provide
meaningful professional development
Guides in School Administration and Supervision is the last and ninth topic. While
discussing this topic, it comes to my mind what are the guidelines in supervising a school. You
need to understand the school finances, this guide has information on funding sources, keeping
accounts, preparing budgets, and reporting school finances. You should have effective
communication for this guide contains suggestions for managing the deal of everyday
communications you are involved in as a principal. You also need to deal with complaints for
this guide will help you to apply simple, broad principles to the way you deal with complaints.
You also need to understand school employment and property for this guide has information on
payroll, appointing staff, concurrence, and performance and has information on property
planning, management, and systems, and there’s a lot more task to do.
As Dr. Arnold said, it is not an easy task to administer and supervise. We need lots of
trainings and experiences to do such. Experience is the best teacher to be a good and true leader.
And I hope someday, when opportunity strikes me, I can impart my knowledge that I have
gained from my experiences, trainings and studies.
