Sense of Sight

Sight (also called eyesight or vision) is one of the five very important senses.
Having sight means to be able to see.
We perceive up to 80% of all impressions by means of our sight. And if other
senses such as taste or smell stop working, it's the eyes that best protect us
from danger. So, one of the most important organs of sense are our eyes.

1. A) Sit with a drawing book and a pencil. Then blindfold

yourself with a handkerchief or scarf. Or, you can keep
your eyes closed. Now try to draw a flower.
B) Sit blindfolded in front of the television and tell
someone to switch on the television and put in some
random channel.

How did you feel when you were not able to see? Write in one or two
sentences.

We are aware that there are some people who are unable to see;
having severely impaired or absolutely no sense of sight. It can
be due to injury, disease or genetic condition.

Visual impairment is a term used to describe any kind of vision

loss, whether it's someone who cannot
see at all or someone who has partial
vision loss.

Would you like to know how they read a book?

Braille is a system of raised dots that can be read with the fingers by people
who cannot see. Louis Braille invented this system.

You can watch this video to learn more about the invention of Braille Script.

Invention Of BRAILLE - Language Of The Blind

https://youtu.be/8hzPIKmCHUA

Braille script is a form of written

language, in which characters are
represented by patterns of raised
dots that are felt with the fingertips.

2. A) Can you decode the word

written here in the Braille script?

B) Try decoding this one more word.

Do you know that special raised markings are put in the currency notes for
easy recognition by visually challenged people?

3. Take a 100 rupee note and observe the following.

A) How many Angular Bleed Lines are there?
B) What shape Identification Mark is there?
(If you cannot find a 100 rupee note, you can use a 50 rupee or any other
currency note available at home.)

The sense of sight is the ability of the eyes

to see objects around you. It is also the
ability to perceive colour, brightness,
depth etc. There are people among us
who are not able to differentiate some
colours. This condition is called Colour
blindness.

4. Try to read the numbers written

inside these four circles.
If you come across a visually challenged person and if it seems as though the
person could use some assistance, the best thing to do is ask politely, "would
you like me to help?" If the answer is yes, ask what they'd like you to do and
do only what is asked. But if the answer is no, it's impolite to insist. You can
help a blind person feel more comfortable by being sensitive to them and just
talking with them in a normal way.

Now you have peeped a little in the world without sight. Hopefully you will
understand the value of your eyesight more and will take proper care of your
eyes as you have learnt in the class.

5. Here is a video link, where our Principal Sir has demonstrated some eye

front of the screens.)
