According to sources, drama is a way of telling a story, which is meant to be

performed by actors and actresses. Before the rise of technology, dramas were

performed on a stage in front of an audience. However, during modern times, dramas are

viewed through televisions, mobile phones, and the likes. In the Philippines, Filipino

dramas are popular entertainment for locals of all ages. Teleseryes showcase Filipino

culture and amazing storylines, which are sometimes cliché. Similarly, Koreans’ have their

so-called K-drama which is popular worldwide, partially due to Korea’s beautiful culture

and its unpredictable plots. Some of the most popular K-dramas are Goblin, Boys Over

Flower, and the recently released; Squid Game.

Although K-drama and Filipino Drama are similar in many ways, they also differ in

some other aspects. In K-dramas, women are pictured to be strong and are more superior

than men, an example of these are Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (2017) and Weight

Lifting Fairy (2016). Filipino dramas, on the other hand, portrayed men to be strong and

women to be modest as part of our culture. Additionally, K-dramas highlight trendy

Korean fashion and at the same time showcase their beautiful traditional clothing,

Hanbok. Contrastingly, Filipino fashion is different from Korean Fashion. Philippines’

traditional wear is also shown in Filipino dramas, yet it is rare. In terms of settings,

Filipino dramas are more in tropical settings since the Philippines is located near the

equator. For K-dramas, winter is very common, specifically, the ‘First Snow Fall’ due to

Korea’s cold temperature.
