ABSTRACT
The vulnerability of transmission of COVID-19 for Caregiver Professionals (PPA) who work in the
field requires efforts to prevent disease, one of which is the use of Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE), but its use can cause discomfort that can reduce work performance. The purpose of the study
was to determine whether there was an influence of comfort and discomfort in the use of personal
protective equipment (PPE) on the professional performance of the surgical care provider (PPA) in the
Padang City Hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic. Quantitative research design with Cross
Sectional method. The population of all Professional Care Providers (PPA) who work in operating
rooms and provide services to COVID-19 surgical patients totaling 252 people, distributed in 3
hospitals in the city of Padang. A sample of 155 people is representative of the research. This research
instrument uses a questionnaire on Convenience of Using Personal Protective Equipment Covid-19,
Factors Causing Discomfort, Performance During Use of Personal Protective Equipment. Data
collection with frequency distribution analysis and SEM PLS 3.0 analysis. The results showed that
there were 5 factors that were significantly related to the use of PPE, namely effectiveness,
interpersonal, independence, quantity and working time with p-values of 0.001, 0.000, 0.000.000,
0.012 respectively, meaning (sig value) < 0.05 and one a factor that is not significantly related is the
quality of work with a value of 0.066 (sig value) > 0.05. Based on the results of this study, factors that
are significantly related need to be maintained, related to the quantity of work under any conditions the
quantity of work must be maximized.
