Based on the lessons on the basic concepts and principles in assessment in learning, select five core
principles in assessing learning and explain them in relation to your experience with a previous or
current teacher in one of your courses/subjects.
Principle Illustration of Practice
Assessment should have a clear purpose. In our Technology for Teaching and Learning 1,
we are given a must-watch video about using
various online application games available as a
teaching tools. After watching video, we were
given a task/assessment to choose an application
we had learned and make our own game to see if
we could ever make and allow to play it with my
classmates (acting students).
Assessment is learner-centered. Many of my instructors use reporting to assess a
student. Allowing student to report for a certain
topic is one factor of being in a learner-centered
environment. Reporting will provide knowledge
to the student even before it is taught and
expanded and will be given a deeper
interpretation or explanation by the teacher.
Assessment is both process and product-oriented. In our Physical Education 3, we are tasked to do a
15 days’ exercise challenge. Before we start the
challenge we will weigh in first. And at the end of
the end of the challenge we will weigh again
whether we have gained weight or lost weight.
Assessment should be as authentic as possible. In our subject Teaching Science in Elementary
Grades, we were assigned to create a lesson plan
specifically the newest type of lesson plan which
is the IDEA Exemplar that started to be used
when the pandemic started. We are free to choose
what topic we want IDEA Exemplar to do. We
are left with how the strategy and techniques we
will use in developing this lesson plan. As long as
we have the originality and authenticity. After
making this lesson plan we will execute it with
the help of my classmates who will serve as
students.
