Module Week 6: Facts versus Opinions

I. Fill out the blanks on the left side with questions that will elicit factual details. On the
corresponding blanks on the right side, write questions that will elicit opinions related to the
facts on the left side.

Set A. For a movie (Cinemalaya film, “Iska” 2019.)

FACT QUESTIONS:

1. What is the movie’s plot or story?

"Iska's" story follows the difficult lives of a lady who has taken on the burden of raising her grandson.
We see Iska attempting to be both a faithful wife and a noble mother. She is imperfect, yet she is
strong. She is constrained, yet she is tough.

2. Who are the main characters of that film?

* Iska

*Joven

* John (Dongdong)

3. What is the theme of the film?

* Social Issues

*Love

*Family

4. Was there something you didn’t understand about the film? What was that?
The thing that I couldn't figure out was why Iska wasn't given a chance to express herself and say
what she felt, and why they quickly took Dongdong to the orphanage without knowing the whole
truth, and Martina spread rumors and malice about the case without checking what it really was, and
in return, she acted hastily and unreasonably.

OPINION QUESTIONS:

1. Did you learn anything from this movie? If you did, what was it?

To begin with, we should avoid from treating a particular child aggressively or unfairly, as the story
provided me with so much knowledge. Instead, we must learn patience in order to comprehend them
and provide them with the love and attention they need. Furthermore, we should always emphasize
what is reasonable over what is trendy when it comes to loving special children.

2. If you had a chance to ask the screenwriter a question, what would it be?

* “As a writer, what was the inspiration behind the story?”

* “does this story relate to your real life? Or do you know such people that relates to this story?”

* “As the screenwriter of the story, what are your own thoughts and opinions for treating special
children like this?”

3. Would you recommend this movie to a friend? Explain your reasons.

Yes, I would recommend this story to my friends because it is based on a true event. I also want them
to take away an important lessons from the film. For example, to prevent them from acting recklessly
or making bad choices, and to make them aware that words are so powerful that they may entirely
destroy someone's life in a split second.

4. Did anything that happened in this movie remind you of something that has occurred
in your own life or that you have seen occur to others?

None of the circumstances or should I say everything that happened in the movie have never been
occurred in my life until now.

II. Come up with facts that will be needed in order to prove the following evaluative statements.
Give at least two supporting facts.

Example: Jose is an outstanding student.

Supporting facts:

- Jose’s grades average 90%.

- He has no absences and no tardy marks.

1. The school guard is not doing his job properly.

Supporting facts:
a. The Guards are sleeping.

b. The Students can leave the campus anytime.

2. Smart phones are better than tablets.

Supporting facts:
a. Smart phones are very easy to use and very handy specially on outdoors.
b. Smart phones have more great and fancy specs than tablets.

III. Essay.

1. What is your understanding about this Proverbs? Proverbs 18:2 says, “Fools find no
pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.”

According to my understanding of Proverbs 18:2, the fool has no interest in

knowledge; they are so preoccupied with themselves that they block their minds to
vital truths. Another worry is that this knowledge may contradict his personal ideals.
As a result, what he values the most are his own opinions.

2. What do you think the importance of having knowledge to differentiate facts

between opinions? Do you think knowing this will help you in the future?

People nowadays are so vocal, and they communicate their thoughts on current
events concisely. As a result, it is critical to distinguish between facts and personal
beliefs. In essence, it will provide us with the ability to become a competent
individual, where no one can easily fool or manipulate you because you understand
the difference between what is real and what is untrue. Simply comprehending. A
complete understanding of the distinctions will be highly useful in the future since it
will help you to become a more critical individual.
