Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1.Greetings
Good morning class! I am glad to see you today.

2. Prayer Goodmorning Ma’am Loradel!

Before we start, let’s have a prayer.
Who wants to lead the prayer?

3. Classroom Rules
(The teacher will call a pupil to lead the prayer)
Let me just remind you of our classroom rules.
a. Sit properly.
b. Listen attentively.
c. Follow direction quickly.
d. Wait for your turn.
e. Work quietly
B. Unlocking of difficulties
Let us widen our vocabulary through
learning the meaning of the following
words.
Grumbling- complaining about something
in a bad-tempered way.
Prowling- moving around without being
noticed.
Weeping- shed tears.

For our lesson today, we will start with a short

story.
C. Motivation
Do you know the story about “The Boy who
cried Wolf?
Take note of the following questions first
because we will answer them after reading.
Will you read the following guide
questions?
( A pupils will read the questions )
 Why did the villagers get mad?
 Why is it important to tell the truth?
(The teacher will read the story)

Let’s go back to the questions earlier. Will

you read and answer question #1?
Why did the villagers get mad?
The villagers got mad because they found out that
the boy was lying.

Why is it important to tell the truth?

It is important to tell the truth so other people will

believed and trust us.
Now, what lesson can we get from the
story? Always speak the truth

Another lesson that we can get from the

story is “lying break trust”. When we lie, we
could break someone’s trust. So the next
time that we say something, they might not
believe or trust us anymore.
D. Presentation
And so class, our lesson for today is about
fact and opinion.
E. Discussion

To prevent spreading lies or false

information, we need to do a “fact
checking”.

Fact checking is a process that verifies

whether the information is based on facts
or not.
Later, he saw a real wolf prowling about
his flock.
Based on the story that we have read, is
there really a wolf that is prowling on his
Yes Ma’am
flock?

That’s right. It is true according to the story.

But how did we know that it is true? Read
the lines that says so.
The sheep already run away.
So it really did happen. When the
statement or information is true, we call it
FACT.

Will you read what is fact?

(A pupils will read the sentence)
A fact is a statement that is known or
proven to be true.
A Fact is a statement that is known or proven to be
true.

Facts can be proven through:

 Doing research
 Reading a book or news paper
 Watching and listening to different media
platforms.
 Asking the person involved directly.

For example:
Lupang Hinirang is the national anthem of
the Philippines.
To verify whether this information is a fact
or opinion. I will ask some questions then
raise your thumbs up if you agree, thumbs
down if not. Okay?

Can we search this information on the

internet? Yes/ Thumbs up

Can we see it on the news? Yes/ Thumbs up

Is it written in books and newspapers? Yes/ Thumbs up

Alright, then this statement is a fact.

How about this sentence from the story.

The villagers thought that he was trying to

fool them again.

Do you think this sentence is also a fact?

No ma’am

No, because of the word thought, it only

expresses what the villagers think. And
when a statement shows what a person
thinks or feels, it is called OPINION.

Now,, let’s find out what is an Opinion.

Opinion is what you think or feel.

It can not be proven
There are signal words that can help you
recognize a statement or information that
might be an opinion.

Will you read the following words?

Feel, believe, might, perhaps, think, (a pupils will read the words)
probably
Feel. Believe, might, perhaps, think, probably
For example:
I think pizza is the most delicious food.

Do you think this statement is a fact or

opinion?

Opinion
What is the signal word used in the
example? Think

We all have our own opinion about the

most delicious food. It means that is what
we think or feel, it is from our own
perspective.

F. Generalization
Now that we already discussed what is Fact
and Opinion, how will you distinguish or
differentiate Fact from Opinion? A Fact is a statement proven to be true while an Opinion is a
statement of belief or judgment about something.

G. Application
Pen and Paper Activity
Class, I will group you into 4 groups. Each
group must write one sentence each for
fact and opinion.
After writing, one of your groupmates will
share the work of your group to the class.
Pupils do so

H. Evaluation
Direction: write F if the statement is fact, O
if the statement is an Opinion.
