d. Review

Alright. Let’s have a short recap of our

discussion at our last meeting. What was
all about? “Sir, our topic last time is all about relevant
and irrelevant ideas”
Okay, very good! I’m glad that you still
remember our past lesson. So, now let’s
proceed to our new topic for today.

But before that, we will have an activity

first.

e. Motivation

Now, let us have a short game before we

proceed to our new lesson. The first word
game is called "Who Am I?" All you need
to do is to answer the following questions.

Are you ready? “Yes, Sir.”

1. I am one of your abilities that you can

find in chart.
2. I am first in final.
3. I am a vitamin that you can get in
squash but never in grass.
4. I am the sound of a three-letter word
kind of drink that is healthy for the body.
The class will answer:
1. C
2. F
3. A
4. T
We have the letters c, f, a, and t. What do
you think is our mystery word?
“I think Sir, if I’m going to arrange the letters
our mystery word is FACT.”
That’s correct

For our second-word game, observe the

statements that you see on your screen and
identify the scrambled word below.

1. I think senior citizens should be

vaccinated first.
2. I prefer online learning than modular
learning.

OIPNOIN

What do you think is our mystery word?

“Sir, the mystery word based on my
observation is OPINION.”
Very good! Our two mysterious words
are fact and opinion and that will be our topic for
today.

B. Lesson Proper:

Now, I have here an excerpt from a news

article, please analyze it by answering the
questions that follow.
Fake news caused overcrowding at national ID
registration in Bulacan: PSA

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said

“fake news” caused a large crowd at a national
id registration area in San Jose del Monte,
Bulacan.

PSA officials were forced to suspend the

registration early because the number of people
exceeded the expected 1,600 registrants and
social distancing was already difficult to impose.
PSA Assistant Secretary Rosalinda Bautista told
Unang Hirit that “fake news” on cash
distribution and the day being the last day for
national ID registration caused people to crowd
at the mall.
1. What caused the overcrowding at the
national ID registration area?

problem?
“Sir, based on my observation Fake news
deliberates lies.”
3. How can you spot fake news?
“Sir, I think that we can spot fake news by

cooperation.

I'm sure as we go on with our discussion

you will realize how important
distinguishing fact from opinion is so we
will not become victims of fake news or
become contributors to spreading them.

Let's now differentiate the two terms:

Fact is an objective statement about

something that can be tested and proven
to be true.

For examples:

1. The capital of The Philippines is Manila

2. Bulacan is one of the provinces on the
island of Luzon in the Philippines

FACT

 Something that can be verified with

pieces of evidence.
 provable, observable, and
measurable
 Statements that can be proven by
reliable authority.
 Information based on statistics,
scientific law, history books, and
others.

On the other hand, Opinion is a

subjective statement about a person's
preferences, ideas and, belief.
For example:

1. Apple products are better than other

brands?

Do you agree with these statements?

“Yes, because Apple products have good

and better quality.”

“No, because they’re more expensive.”

Even if everyone agreed, with the
statements, they are still opinions
because they are not provable.

OPINION

 Something that cannot be proven.

 Based on someone's thoughts,
feelings, and understanding.
 Statements that can be confusing if
it is widely accepted.

In addition, certain words will warn you

that you are being given an
Opinion and not a fact.

Some of those are biased words (such as

bad, worse, worst, good, better, best, and
worthless)
C. Application:

that the teacher is reading. After listening
to your teacher, you are going to identify
the statements whether they belong to
fact or opinion. Write F if the statement is
a fact and O if the statement is an opinion.

sold out.

4. It was sung by more than 45

famous singers from all over the
world.

5. Michael Jackson is one of my
