DISCUSSION

A. DEFINITION OF ASKING FOR INFORMATION

In everyday life we must have heard information and opinions on something we see.
whether it's good information or not. Information is statements, ideas, and signs that contain
values, meanings, and messages, both data, facts and explanations that can be seen, heard,
and read presented in various packages and formats in accordance with technological
developments.
Asking for information is our expressions to ask questions or to ask about
explanations from what we said to someone else, so we get what we asked.
There are a number formulas used when asking for information in english. Here are some of
the most common:
1. Could you tell me…..?
2. Do you know……?
3. I’m looking for…..?
4. Have you got an idea of….?
There are some responses, we use:
1. Oh yes i did.
2. That’s right.
3. I’m sorry but that isn’t correct.

B. RULES IN ASKING FOR INFORMATION

In writing or expressing asking for information, you must pay attention to the
existing rules. Including the following:
1. Using questions
In asking for information, we must use interrogative sentences consisting of 5W + 1 H. Such
as:
- What : used when askin about something that you don’t know anything about.
- When : used when asking what time something will happend.
- Where : use in order to ask or tell someone the place or position of something.
- Who : used in order to ask about a person or group of people, or to make a statement.
- Why : conjuction for what reason.
- How : used in order to ask about or explain the way to do.
4
2. Using auxiliary capital
Besides question word, you can also use auxiliary words, such as:
- Could
- Can
- Would
- Will
- Should
- Shall
- May
- Might
- Must
- And had to.

When making an introduction an any language, you need to know the formulas and
rules for doing it. You also need to know what to call the participants. Listen to the followin
dialogues, paying attention to the introductions and the way people address each other.
C. USE OF FORMAL AND INFORMAL LANGUAGE
If you need information, you can ask someone directly.
1. Use Of Formal Language
When you are in a new place and want to ask someone else about it, it’s a good idea
to use polite sentenceabove, the situation you face can be like when you have just moved to a
new environment and want to know what the environment is like. Example: “ could you tell
me about this place? “
A formal introduction consists of two parts: giving the name and, if not provided by
the context, some information about the people being introduced so they will have some
common ground to begin a conversation.
2. Use Of Informal Language
We’re not always in a formal situation, right? Sometimes, we are also faced with
informal situations, but we still want to ask for information. And of course, asking for
information in an informal situation is different from when asking in a formal situation.
The following is an example of a sentence asking for information in an informal
siuation: “ can you tell me what time the train arrives. “ when you’re at the station, you don’t

5
know what time your train will arrive. Therefor, you can ask the officers or people around
you. In this situation, therefor you can use informal sentences market with the word “ can“.
D. EXAMPLE SENTENCES ASKING OF INFORMATION
1. What is your name?
2. I wonder if you cold tell me about the history of this place?
3. What happened in here?
4. What of food that you can cook?
5. Where do you find my address?
6. Why did you come to school at Sunday?
7. Why everyone didn’t tell me about the holiday?
8. How much you will pay to me?
9. How long can you stay in the haunted hous alone?
10. Where do yo live when childood?

CHAPTER III
CLOSING

A. CONCLUSION
So, in giving and receiving information in English, there is also a language
procedure. if we want to use words that match the rules of the English language. And when
we want to give information we have to rethink what we are going to tell others. Likewise,
when we receive information, we can't just say yes or no.

B. SUGESTION
