HLP #2

HLP 14 Teach cognitive and metacognitive strategies to support learning and independence: It is
important to have a relationship between the students and the teachers. Working one-on-one is
also a big deal for some kids who may be struggling to understand what and why things are
going on that are difficult for them. It is super important that the teachers choose what kind of
strategies based on what the students need to succeed. Also, by using cognitive strategies like
repetition is a big deal for younger kids to keep them engaged and make sure that they are
understanding what is being taught. Metacognitive strategies are a big part of being a teacher as
well.

If I was the teacher in a classroom where we were looking to see if there were kids that were
struggling with some possible learning disabilities, I would use lots of different strategies to help
the students to succeed. I would start by using some cognitive strategies when working with the
whole class to determine who may be struggling and who needs more help learning to work
independently. I will then also use some metacognitive strategies including having the students
ask themselves questions, organize thoughts, and take notes from memory.

I believe that if these strategies are used in the classroom, it will help the teacher to determine
which students may be struggling with learning how to work independently. It can also help the
teacher to determine which students may be struggling with certain learning disabilities.

Next page-I have created a worksheet for each students, where I as the teacher, will be bringing a
tray of 13 trinkets into the classroom for 2 minutes and then hide it, I will then talk about each
item and make sure that each item is brought up multiple times, using repetition, I will then have
the students write down the items they remember.
