HLP 18 Use strategies to promote active student engagement-I think that active engagement in a
classroom is super important and needs to be taken seriously. If the students aren’t engaged, they
will not understand what the teacher is expecting and they may not understand the assignment.
There are so many different strategies that can be found or used to help kids stay engaged and
ready to learn. I think that if there is no engagement from the class, there is really no point in
continuing a lesson and trying to get their attentions. Kids need to know what to expect from the
start and they need different strategies to keep them active and engaged in the lesson.

If I was a teacher in the class, I would use the strategy “think, pair, share.” I think that this
strategy can make a huge difference in the classroom when it comes to grabbing their attention.
They will have to start by thinking about the question asked on their own. I will then put them
into partners and they will share what they thought about individually. If I want to, I will then
have them share with the rest of the class.

I think that when they know they will have to share and talk to others they will listen so they
don’t feel uncomfortable when it comes to talking with others. Also, by having them share with
the class as pairs, they shouldn’t feel weird because they both came up with the answer and they
are not sharing alone.
