Explore the relationship between Justice and one or more of these ideals: Truth,

Freedom, Equality, and/or Forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a key part to justice if one allows themselves to forgive a wrongdoer

the whole outcome of a situation can be changed. The Dalai Lama believes that
forgiveness is the best form of justice. He says “where there is forgiveness there is
a chance for peace”. Through forgiving a wrongdoer people could be more at
peace with themselves and with the wrongdoer. The person that many people
believe to be the highest power “forbids sin but still loves the sinner”. If God is
willing to forgive people of their sins. Then why do we as humans seem to be
incapable of forgiving wrong doers. To accomplish forgiveness in our justice
system I believe that we need to have something similar to restorative justice. The
definition of restorative justice is a system of criminal justice which focuses on the
rehabilitation of offenders through reconciliation with victims and the community
at large. For this to work the victim and the community must truly and
meaningfully forgive the offenders. If they unwilling forgive the offender and it is
not at all meaningful then they still hold a grudge toward the offender and this
can lead them to crazy things in pursuit of what they believe is justice. When
pursuing justice it is important to take into consideration the type of crime and
the age of the offender. In the film true justice there is a portion that talks about
children serving life sentences some of which only committed minor crimes. This
is a case where the best form of justice is forgiveness. It is also important to take
into consideration other circumstances such as a life or death situation. A crime
that is also not a crime but is very largely forgiven is self defense. Self defense
leading to death is legal but cannibalism when it is the only way to survive is not
allowed. In a self defense scenario someone is trying to attack you so you kill
them. In the lifeboat scenario there are five sailors on a lifeboat with no food to
allow them to survive so they decide to eat the sailor who is the least healthy in
order to survive. With both of these scenarios the outcome is death but those
who were part of the self defense scenario are innocent and forgiven. Those part
of the life boat scenarrio are found guilty of murder and sent to prison. In other
words it is important to take into consideration crimes that are similar and not
punish them so drastically different that it makes no sense.

Reaction

I think that whoever talked about the justice system only serves cocasion wealthy
straight men is right to a point. By this I mean I think it serves anyone who is
wealthy or cocasion while acas only serves others though it is rare for it to serve
others.

I also think it is true that justice is a luxury that only certain people can afford and
if you can't afford it then you get stuck with someone who isn't even on your side
or rooting for you trying to defend you even though they don't want to see you
get the justice you deserve.
