ADVOCACY AGAINST CORRUPTION

Corruption is defined as the misuse of entrusted power for personal gain. This is a huge
issue in our society, particularly in politics, where we can see it at all levels of government. It
has sparked political squabbles, undermined democracy and good administration by ignoring or
even undermining formal processes for one another, or just pocketing every pound from their
own citizens without their knowledge. Among all the reasons for corruption, I feel that temptation
is the most important factor. With the spread of opportunities and minimal risks, people in power
are more likely to engage in such practice unless one is firmly rooted on solid principles and has
been nurtured in upright manner.

In my experience, bribery is the closest form of corruption I have encountered. Money, they
often say, is the source of all evil. I've seen people who have broken traffic rules pay traffic
enforcers or officials to get out of it. In the news I hear information about police accepting money
from inmates to let them live in luxury inside the jail. Even with businesses operating with
natural resources have high risks of corruption. We may be unaware of it but I believe we have
fair share of corrupt practices in our lifetimes. To prevent such incidents, people should be
better educated so that they are aware of and can resist the growth of corruption in any form we
know. From what I’ve learned, corruption cannot be completely eradicated, even with harsh, but
by beginning as individuals with integrity and assisting ourselves by implementing anti-
corruption measures, we may be able to greatly reduce corruption in our workplaces and even
in government because, at the end of the day, those who are most harmed by corruption are the
world's weakest and most vulnerable people.
