I welcome you all here. I am here to present a speech on corruption.

By "corruption," we
mean any dishonest or immoral behavior or activities that benefit a powerful
organization or individuals. As a result, corruption frequently results in loss to the
weaker.

Our world is a vast and beautiful land; however, the beauty and goodwill of this great
nation are tainted by the level of corruption that exists in the world. In almost every
sector, one could find corruption happening, and corrupt people were growing in great
abundance day by day.

The Philippines is just one of many countries that have battled corruption for decades.
We are too blinded by the mask of kindness and the very little opportunity that a
politician promised us. Miriam Defensor Santiago, one of the geniuses in the Philippine
government, stated that "it does not take a genius to solve corruption." Laudable
remedies have time and again been proposed. "In fact, several measures aimed at
curbing corruption are now pending in Congress."

Money and power have ruled men, and it has come to a stage where if the common
man needs any kind of help from the government sector or business arena, you too
have to end up taking the corrupt route.

Though lots of speeches go around speaking about morality, behind closed doors, it is
money that rules. For any kind of thing to happen, one has to know the back door and
spend great amounts of money to get the work done.

Bureaucrats and politicians wield power and money in such a way that even the most
talented and efficient people in their respective fields are unable to survive, let alone be
recruited.

Hence, in these places, work efficiency also gets corrupted and altered as per the
interests of the people in power.

Corruption begins at the highest levels and spreads to the lowest. From the senior
officers to the junior officers to the clerks, one would find corrupted people, and the
common man would find it difficult to bypass them and get his things done. This is now
happening all over the world, not just in sophisticated cities. Villages and towns are all
part of these games, and it is the common man who gets affected by these dirty games.

The heights of corruption have reached a point where there are no proper laws to put an
end to these corrupt people. Because of the highly corrupt people who would do
anything for money, it has become very difficult for the common man or the righteous to
survive. They are taken for granted, and hence taken for a ride.

Corruption is something that lives on top and breeds at the bottom. It is that evil that has
the capacity to rip the entire social fabric of the country, and democracy is usually the
most vulnerable kind of government affected by this plague.

Corruption cannot be eradicated, and the best we can do is minimize its vulnerability by
using strict laws and an enforcement unit. This has to come to an end, and we need to
reach a situation where every person should feel and say that they are living in a
corrupt-free land and be proud of it.
