Short stories are reading materials that are narrative or entertaining so that many people like to read them. One of the interesting short stories is the short story by Muna Masyari, entitled Tambang Sapi Karapan. In addition to entertaining, the short story also has an intrinsic element in it that is interesting to analyze. One of these elements is figurative language. Figurative language is usually used to analyze the deeper meaning of words. most people are not aware of the figurative language contained in the short story Tambang Sapi Karapan written by Muna Masyari. The following is a figure of speech contained in the short story entitled Tambang Sapi Karapan by Muna Masyari. the first is personification, personification is the application of human nature to inanimate objects. The following is a personification figure of speech contained in this short story that is “dua pohon nyiur berjajar, menjulang angkuh” in the sentence there is the word "angkuh" which is a human nature. Then, in the sentence “Temaram malam menyamarkan polesan kosmetik tebal di wajah perempuan muda itu” there is the word "menyamarkan" which seems to make the word "Temaram malam" feel alive. Then, in the sentence “kata-kata Marsiyeh menggiring paksa ingatan Suraksah” there is also a word "menggiring" that makes the words "kata-kata Marsiyeh" seem alive. So, the short story writer uses personification in this short story. The second is simile, simile is a figure of speech that compares two different things that use the words "like" or "as" and are commonly used in everyday conversation. The following is the use of similes in this short story that is “ketika usia Suraksah seperti matahari redup menjelang maghrib” in this sentence the word “umur Suraksah” is compared to the word “matahari redup menjelang maghrib”. Then in the sentence “Tambang biru gelap itu seperti jari-jari gurita” the world “Tambang biru gelap” is compared to the word “jari-jari gurita”. So, this short story also uses figurative language in the form of simile. The third is onomatopoeia, onomatopoeia is a type of naming that imitates the sound associated with something or an action. They give the work a sense of realism. here is one form of use onomatopoeia in this short story that is “Hff!” Marsiyeh mendesah”, “Ah!” Suraksah mendengus gusar. The words “Hff!” and “Ah!” from the two sentences are a form of using sound effects. So, the author also uses onomatopoeia to write her short story. So, in writing the short story of Tambang Sapi Karapan, Muna Masyari uses several figurative languages such as simile, onomatopoeia, and personification. And of course, the use of figurative language is useful so that readers can feel the emotions in the short story in depth.
