Case: IDN MEDIA

IDN Media, is a multi-platform digital media company aimed at the next generation Z and
millennials. The beginning of the formation of IDN Media, when Winston Utomo was still
working as an Account Specialist at Google Singapore. He wrote an article on his page, and The
article went viral on social media. He also saw an opportunity to create special content for
millennials and generation Z in Indonesia. Winston decided to quit his job and founded IDN
Media with his younger brother, William Utomo on 08 June 2014. Currently, IDN Media has
two offices in Surabaya and Jakarta (they call it as "Creative Labs") and has a team of 140
people (they call it with the term "Timmy").
In addition to having a portal containing news and informative articles, IDN Media also
has produce video content distributed via Facebook and YouTube. Multiple channels The
content includes IDN TV, Yummy (which focuses on culinary content). Besides operating as a
media, IDN Media also has an event organizer service called IDN Event, IDN Creative agency
service, and IDN Creator Network. IDN Media is one of the startups that receives funding
regularly every year. In September 2015, they managed to get seed funding from East Ventures
; secured Series A funding led by North Base Media right a year later. IDN Media is also one of

the startups chosen to participate second wave of Google Launchpad Accelerator program and
gets equity-free funding of US$ 50 thousand. And in November 2017, IDN Media received
Series B funding with unspecified amount. The investment was led by East Ventures, followed
by Hong Kong-based investment company, Central Exchange.
