Notes: Title: Shrek2
Year Released: 2004
Name of Director: Conan Vernon, Kelly Asbury, and Andrew Adamson
Setting of the Story: At the beginning of the first Shrek movie, Shrek lives in a remote
swamp in the Fairy-Tale Land in Duloc. The setting has changed after he got married
to a Princess from the Land of Far-Far-Away
Time/Period: The time or period of is based on late 19 th century. It can be identified
through the characters and their clothes. Especially the main character which is an
ogre, a character that plays a major role in Greek Mythology.
2. Who is the protagonist and what is he or she like?
Notes: The protagonist of the movie is Shrek. Ann ogre that is living on a remote
swamp in Fairy-Tale Land in Duloc and feared by the people living near his place.
 3. Who or what is the antagonist and what is he, she, or it like?
Notes: The antagonist of the movie is the Fairy Godmother. The highest of all fairies
Mother of Prince Charming who is supposed to marry the princess of the Far-Far-
Away.
4. What is the conflict that is driving the protagonist to act?
Notes: The conflict that drives the protagonist to act was when he discovered that his
wife is being manipulated and slowly taken away from him.
5. Is there another less important conflict, often referred to as a subplot, which helps drive
the story? If so, describe that conflict and who is involved in it.
Notes:  Yes, it was that time when Shrek was not in favor of going to the Far-Far-Away
to meet all the people because of the fact that people will be in great shock of their
look. Another less important conflict was when the protagonist and the father of his
wife had an argument that is something very personal.
6. Describe three actions that the protagonist takes in order to try to resolve the conflict.
Notes: First action that the protagonist took was when the father of his wife offers
him to have a talk and go hunting to resolve the conflict between them two. Next
action that he took was when he desperately robs the factory of the Fairy Godmother
and obtained a potion that changes his look. Lastly, when he united with his fairy-
tale friends and stopped the plan of the Fairy Godmother to make his wife drink the
potion that will turn her to be in love with the Prince Charming.

7. What is the climax or moment of highest tension?


Notes: The climax of the story was when the Protagonist teamed up with all the fairy-
tale characters and saved his wife from being manipulated through drinking the
potion that the Fairy Godmother made to make her son, Prince Charming to become
the husband of his wife.
8. How is the conflict resolved?
Notes: The conflict was resolved through the effort of the main character and the
love towards his wife. He did everything to gain and earn the trust of his wife’s
parents, he is even willing to sacrifice his life to prevent his wife from being
manipulated to the antagonist.
9. What aspects of the protagonist’s character lead to the resolution of the conflict? Support
your conclusion. 
Notes: His, love. Love brings an all-out level of ourselves. His love towards his wife
neglects all the negative circumstances and pull everything through. He was willing
to sacrifice everything for the sake of their relationship and for the sake of love.

Lesson No. 1: Notes: Prince Charming is not real – Love does not come from a beauty
of a person; love comes from within the person.
Lesson No. 2: Notes: Friendship – You will know how true and real your friends are
when even at your hardest time they are there willing to accomplice with everything.
Lesson No. 3: Notes: Appreciating the little things in life – Early part of the movie the
character and his wife is only living on a remote swamp. Yet, they were very happy of
what they have. They were living as they are like living on a kingdom of their own

Notes: Humor – The movie has something that can change on how we think about the
world. Somehow, in a funny way.
Irony – Ogre cannot be married with humans and cannot have a happy ever after.
The outcome of the movie is the opposite. They were married and lived happily ever
after.

Notes: Sound – The sound track of the movie produced energy that has a layer of
effect to the audience. Sound tracks during intense moment is really significant to
add hype to have impact to the audience emotions.
Camera angle – This makes the characters viewed as what they are trying to express
in the scene. The angle of the camera is depending on what emotion the characters
are portraying.
