How was it? I know you did great in formulating the
statement of the problem for each situation. You may
always go back to the lesson and keep in mind that having
a clear statement of the problem will minimize future
problems on your research.
2. There are four (4) basic steps in writing statement of the problem:
a. going back to the research title;
b. identifying the variables of the study;
c. identifying the respondents;
d. writing the statement of the problem.

To make you a more competent SHS learner, let
us first set our learning objectives. This module will guide
you in understanding how to state research questions.
Specifically, this will help you gain the concepts
based on the following specific objectives:
1. determine the steps in stating quantitative
research questions; and
2. state research questions.
Introduction

(Activity 1) WORD SCRAMBLE
Instruction: Arrange the scrambled words to form a sound sentence. Write the
words on the space provided.
Great job!
17
Now, let’s deepen your answers above.
(Activity 2)
Instruction: Based on your result in Activity 1, answer the following questions
below.
18
Lesson: The Research Questions
Research questions (RQs) are questions derived from the purpose that a
researcher is trying to answer in a study. It will serve as the basis for the introductory
section of your final proposal, directing your reader’s attention quickly to the issues that
your research will address. A research question should be as specific as possible. If the
purpose is quite complex, the researcher can make two or more research questions to
cover it (Pardede, 2018).
The specific questions which are to be answered in the study are called research
questions, and are all in question form. The answer to the research questions should
lead to the solution of the research problem (Faltado, Bombita, Boholano & Pogoy,
2016).
Thinking about a research problem or topic is the starting point in doing your
research. This is followed by stating research questions about your research problem.
The following guidelines will help you formulate your research questions in a manner
that is acceptable to the academic community.
1. Formulate a research question that is within your subject of interest and the
one that is researchable.
2. Conduct a research on the chosen topic to find out what has already been
done and what literature already exists.
3. Construct a research problem which could find answers or solutions to the
problem being studied.
4. Make a research question which states the variables of your study and their
relationships with one another.
5. Evaluate your research question whether it is effective or need some revising
or refining.
6. State your research question, if possible, in question form or in interrogative
manner. (Faltado, Bombita, Boholano & Pogoy, 2016)
7. Make your research questions SMARTER.

Good job!
You were done reading and understanding the
steps in stating research questions. By this time, you
are now good about what is a quantitative research
question. Remember always that you can still be
better. Are you now ready for another set of
exercises? It’s time to prove and flex with what you
have.

Information about this ADM learner’s material
Hello, Everyone!
Magandang Buhay! How are you today? I hope you
are all doing great. Did you enjoy your previous modules
in Practical Research? I’m sure you did. Today, we will be
learning more on how to become good
researchers/writers someday. I hope you will get excited
as we will be discussing on this module how to indicate
scope and delimitations of a research study.
31
Introduction
_________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________
32
How did you find the activity? Have you observed
thoroughly the picture? Can you make statements on
what is the picture all about? Well, your answers vary
from one another. So, nothing to worry about.
(Activity 2)
Instruction: The previous activity will guide you on how to indicate scope and
delimitation of a study. Answer these:
33
Lesson: Scope and Delimitation of a Research
Study
Scope of a Study
Scope refers to the involvedness at which the research area will be discovered.
Facts and theories about the subject are included in this area. For instance, one might
decide to conduct a study of the impact of digital technology on the academic
performance of high school students. However, it's infeasible to cover all aspects of the
selected subject. If so, the scope will have to be restricted to a specific section of the
target population over a specified duration.
In the above-cited study, a group of 30 students in grades 7 to 9 at one particular
school would be an ideal coverage to study their academic performance for five months.
These would form the delimitations of the research.
Delimitation of a Study
Delimitation is the parameters or characteristics that limit the scope and outline
the boundaries of the study. These parameters include sample size, time, and
geographic area. Additionally, the researcher is free to decide which research tools and
methodologies to use as well as particular theories that apply to the data. Delimitations
like insufficient time and financial resources might be imposed to allow further analysis
or investigations.
Here, researchers are tasked with the responsibility of explaining why specific
exclusions and choices were made and how they might affect the outcome of the
research. In the example mentioned above, the researcher might explain why a sample
group of 30 students was chosen together with children from grades 3 to 5 and not the
rest of the grades.
34
Since you already know what the scope and
delimitation of a research is, now, get ready to answer
the next activity intended for you.
This study focuses on the awareness and health practices on Corona Virus
Disease (COVID-19) of the secondary students of Los Amigos National High School.
The selection of the respondents is only limited since the city is under the enhanced
community quarantine.
Note: Use the rubric for scope and delimitation under Let’s Test Ourselves

35
(Activity 3.2) SCOPE or DELIMITATION?
Instruction: Read the following statements. Indicate whether the statement is
scope or delimitation.
36
1. Scope and Delimitations of a study tell the reader on what information is included
in the research and give explanation why the author chose that information.
2. Scope refers to the depth at which the research area will be explored.
3. Delimitation parameters or characteristics that limit the scope and outline the
boundaries of the study. These parameters include sample size, time, and
geographic area.
