Iceberg/Penguin (PE)- Lesson Plan

5 Hook/Introduction
minutes  Run 2 laps around the gym and sit in the middle
 Have a student lead exercises while I put out 6 hula hoops around the gym.

1. Kids (‘penguins’) move around the area, but stay off the hula hoops (‘icebergs’) instructions
2. After 1 minute, the teacher calls out a number (between 1-5)
3. Kids must quickly stand or sit down in a hula hoop (‘iceberg’) in a group of the number called-
ex: if the teacher calls out “4”, kids must sit down in hula hoops in a group of 4, no more no less
4. After 10 seconds, if you don’t have a group or the correct number of people in the hula hoop, Pull out 6 hula
you must do a challenge: hoops and
 Challenge: spread around
o 10 jumping jacks the gym
o 5pushups
o 10 butt kicks
o 10 star jumps
o 5 wall jumps

 The students LOVED this game! The instructions were quite simple, which allowed us to play the game for the whole 15

minutes! About ½ way through the 15 minutes I asked if the students wanted a challenge…. So instead of just using
numbers 1-5 I said numbers 1-10.
 This was a very engaging game for students! I ended it off by having them move around as quietly as they could, and I
whispered the final number, so they had to be very quiet to hear it!
