standing, when prophets at many times and in various ways,
possible.
People: But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,
whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he
Call to worship: made the universe.
Hebrews 1:1-3
Leader: The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful
word.

People: After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down

at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Leader: Come, let us worship our Lord.

✞ Hymn - O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer

Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, Desire of nations, bind

All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife, and discord cease;
Fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!
Lighting of the Advent Wreath
Leader: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. Through him, all things
were made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not
understood it. Light is the symbol of creation. In the
beginning, God said,

People: Let there be Light!

Leader: Light is the symbol of Christ’s coming to earth.

Jesus said,

People: I am the Light of the World!

Leader: Light is the symbol of God’s presence in us. Each

believer is told

People: Let your Light shine!

Unison and Silent Prayers of Confession Call to

Holy God of Promise, we praise you for sending light into Confession:
this world. We confess that we live as though the light had John 3:19-21
never defeated darkness. We confess that we ignore the
Savior you sent to be among us and to live in us. We’ve kept
the birth of your Son confined to the Christmas season and
do not yearn for his coming each moment in our waiting Affirmation of
hearts. Forgive us for not opening our eyes to Jesus. Prepare
us for His return. Help us rejoice in the light, so that your Grace:
grace can illuminate the darkened places of our souls. John 8:12

Response - Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus

Come, Thou long expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a King,

Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all-sufficient merit Raise us to Thy glorious throne. Amen.

The King of kings is drawing near;
The Savior of the world is here!

Fling wide the portals of your heart;

Make it a temple, set apart
From earthly use for heaven’s employ,
Adorned with prayer, and love, and joy.

Redeemer, come! I open wide

My heart to Thee; here, Lord, abide.

✞ Closing Hymn - Watchman, Tell Us of the Night 43081
Watchman, tell us of the night, ccpc.us
What its signs of promise are,
email@ccpc.us
Traveler, o’er yon mountain’s height,
See that glory beaming star! tel: 614.882.2347
Watchman, does its beauteous ray fax: 614.882.1380
Aught of joy or hope foretell?
Traveler, yes; it brings the day,
Promised day of Israel.

Watchman, tell us of the night,

Higher yet that star ascends,
Traveler, blessedness and light,
Peace and truth its course portends.
Watchman, will its beams alone
Gild the spot that gave them birth?
Traveler, ages are its own;
See, it bursts o’er all the earth!

Watchman, tell us of the night,

For the morning seems to dawn.
Traveler, darkness takes its flight;
Doubt and terror are withdrawn.
Watchman, let your wanderings cease;
Hasten to your quiet home.
Traveler, lo, the Prince of Peace,
Lo, the Son of God, is come!
