FLEXIBLE LEARNING

Justine Raymundo, LPT.

“Flexible Learning is a tool that would help
ensure the continuity of inclusive and
accessible education when the use of
traditional modes of teaching is not feasible, as
in the occurrence of national emergencies.”
What is flexible learning?
How will it be able to
address our educational
concerns?
“Flexible learning is a set of educational
philosophies and systems, concerned with providing
learners with increased choice, convenience, and
personalization to suit the learner. In particular,
flexible learning provides learners with choices
about where, when, and how learning occurs.”

- Shurville
Peter Ling identified the different types of
flexible learning. He was able to find two
categories of different types of flexible learning.
THE TYPOLOGY AND INSTANCES OF FLEXIBLE LEARNING
Provision Oriented to Access and Provision Oriented to
Convenience for Learners Accommodating Learning
Preferences
1. Moving time and/or place to suit 1. Providing alternative entry and
the learner exit points appropriate to the
learner
2. Removing fixed time and place 2. Accommodating learning style,
constraints pace, and collaboration
preferences
3. Removing entry requirements 3. Accommodating content and
assessment preferences

Flexible Learning affords a lot of freedom for the
learners, it’s the freedom to choose where to
learn, when to learn, what to learn, and how to
learn.

So, is it still flexible learning?

YES!
EVALUATION IN FLEXIBLE
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
There are various ways to assess and evaluate
students in the flexible learning environment.
They have the choice to decide how and
what to assess.
Students choose weight of assessment – Plussage

- Plussage is a novel system of combining

formative and summative assessment.
Students self-assess

- Study, Discussion, Reflect on Action

Students peer assess

• Students learn their strengths and weaknesses by

grading each other, enhancing their own
learning.
• Improves subsequent work and enhances
understanding
• Learn how to assess and how to test better
