JULIE by Yilla

I have been asked for a “light lace shawl that you can wrap yourself in“. And since the
person asking is originally from the river Ahr valley, a name that anyway equals “red
wine” the shawl is named after this year´s Ahr Wine Queen, Julia Bertram. I am
dedicating JULIE to her.
The gossamer lace of the shawl is based on the Finnish-Estonian pattern collection
“Haapsalu Sall” by Reimann/Edasi, which is regrettably out of stock. So knit your shawl
to your desired measurements and end up with a scarf, shawlette or shawl.

MEASUREMENTS
 Scarf = size S, ~ 40 cm x 150 cm
 Shawlette = size M, ~ 55 cm x 175 cm

 Shawl = size L, ~ 70 cm x 210 cm

 The pattern repeat consists of 13 stitches, add or subtract a multiple of 13 stitches for a wider or narrower shawl.

 The pattern repeat can be worked until the yarn is used up or you´ve reached the desired length.

MATERIALS
 DROPS Lace, 800 m/100 g or any lace-weight yarn

Selvedge Stitch
Selvedge st = chain st

 slip first st of following row, bring yarn to back of work and continue in pattern

Edging

 Only right side rows are charted

 All wrong side rows are worked like this: K4, purl to last four sts, k4

PATTERN

 Cast-on for all three sizes (no swatching necessary):

- Scarf = size S, ~ 40 cm x 150 cm: 66 sts
- Shawlette = size M, ~ 55 cm x 175 cm: 92 sts
- Shawl = size L, ~ 70 cm x 210 cm: 118 sts
 Row 1-7 Edging
 Row 8 (= right side row) start working by chart (Page 4)
So you have the following sts on the needle: 1 sst – k3 – 11 sts in pattern repeat A – 3 (5, 7) x 13 sts for pattern repeat B – 8 sts in pattern repeat C – k3 – sst

 Repeat first 12 rows of chart until you have reached the desired length
 Work 6 rows in garter st (= knit 6 rows, 3 ridges)

 Bind off all sts very loosely

 Wet shawl and pin to desired dimensions. Done! 

A very hearty thankyou goes to my wonderful test knitters Petra, Patricia, Inge, Cornelia and Anke – as well as Jana for her help with the translation ♥♥♥
