Open Studio: Create your own work of choice exploring a theme that you value.

developed concept as well as demonstrate artistic technique.
Artist Research Assignments
Art 20/30 Artist Posts: 5 Posts Total Due Monthly by the 20th

Each month you will be required to make one post on an artist/artwork of your choice. The goal of
this assignment is for you to develop your knowledge of art, find inspiration and share ideas with your
peers and teacher. The post should show development of your ideas and a variety of mediums,
styles, themes and techniques.

You must also include a thoughtful and original response to the post in the form of 2-5 sentences. The
link should be related to your artistic interests and art or design. Each post will be marked out of 5.

In addition, please respond/comment on 2 other students' posts by the end of each month.

Post on the Artist Posts page in the Art 20/30 Collaborative Space Fall 2021 in Teams.

Students will be given the opportunity to either complete 5 artists' posts due monthly by the
20th, or to complete a powerpoint presentation or poster project. Either students can post on
Teams once every month, or present their powerpoint or poster project on Wednesdays of
their choice. Students will let the teacher know which option they’ve chosen by September 8.

1) Powerpoint Presentation: Students are to make a creative presentation that includes:

● 4 - 6 images: the artist, and some of their artwork.


● 1 paragraph of interesting and thoughtful information about the artist and why you
chose them.
● 6-8 sentences attached with the images of their artist’s artwork.

2) Poster Project: Students are to make a creative poster that includes:

● 4 - 6 images: the artist, and some of their artwork.


● 1 paragraph of interesting and thoughtful information about the artist and why you
chose them.
● 6-8 sentences attached with the images of their artist’s artwork.

3) Post online on Teams: This includes:

● You must also include a thoughtful and original response to the post in the form of 2-5
sentences. The link should be related to your artistic interests and art or design. Each post
will be marked out of 5.
● In addition, please respond/comment on 2 other students' posts by the end of
each month.

Gallery Visit & Review: Due Dec. 14


Visiting galleries is an important part of your studio art experience. It will provide you with a greater
understanding of the role of art and culture in society. Attending an art gallery will also provide an
experience to gain understanding of the art community in Lethbridge.

Drawing will fill space between studio projects and serve as an opportunity to take a break from
studios. The focus of the drawings is to build skills and techniques.

Drawing Handouts will be passed out in advance.


Drawings should be on 11x17 paper and outside of your sketchbook.
All drawings will be marked using the Art 20/30/35 drawing rubric.

Studio Piece 1: Faceless Portrait Due: Sept 24
Through the creation of this piece you will explore your identity to create a mixed media
work that truly represents you. In a way, this is a self-portrait however it is not required
to have a visual portraiture included.

This project will include lessons and development of oil painting technique. The studio
piece should demonstrate the techniques learned. The subject matter is your choice
but should be something that will hold your interest and demonstrate the skills learned.

creativity to create an abstract painting. The subject matter is your choice.

Studio Piece 4: Exploring Cubism and Colour Due: Dec 16
We will take a look at the art movement known as Cubism, who and when it was
created, and how multiple artists created works with cubism. Students will have an
opportunity to explore different views of subjects (usually objects or figures) together in
the same picture, resulting in a sculpture that appears fragmented and abstracted.
