Problem Solving Using Analytical Listening

Most Essential Learning Competency

Employ analytical listening in problem solving.

Sub-Competency

Use attentive listening with informative texts and analytical and critical listening with

argumentative texts.

Background Information for Learners

There must have been times when you jump into conclusions without knowing or analyzing the

cause of your misunderstanding with others. Searching for signals, which may be indirect, is a

way of recognizing the root of conflicts and disagreements. So, how should we avoid

misunderstandings?

Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages in the

communication process. It is the key to all effective communication. Without the ability to

listen effectively, messages are easily misunderstood.

While listening, being a critical listener comes down to using your critical thinking

skills. These skills help us in analyzing the speaker's messages and motives to assess the

authenticity and the truth of the message we receive.
