Adhering to its duty of empowering the community, the Pangasinan State University
Lingayen Campus continues to conduct livelihood and skills training among the
community-folks. This time, the PSU Lingayen Camus Extension Unit through the
programs Bachelor of Industrial Technology, BSEd Technology and Livelihood
Education/ BTTE, the Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Bachelor of Business
Administration and Bachelor of Hospitality Management, the “Women in Enterprise
Development Training” was conducted on October to December of 2016.
The Women in Enterprise Development Training was conceived as a part of the Adopt-
a-Barangay Project of the Pangasinan State University Lingayen Campus Extension
Program to provide livelihood and skills training for the marginalized members of the
barangay—the women.
The objectives of the activity were: 1) Enhance the skills of women through food
preparation, preservation, and processing; garments technology, hair cutting and nail
care; 2) Encourage women to engage in gainful and entrepreneurial activities; 3)
Empower women to help the family to earn a living or to have income of her own; and 4)
Engage the women in social action for them to contribute a meaningful and worthwhile
achievements and a participate to their barangay improvements.

role of women in economic development. Mrs. Edna M. Queriones empower the women
with her talk on gender issues and equality. Dr. Abelardo Abalos, Jr. encourages the
women to start their business and be financially free.
There were twenty-five participants, mostly were mothers and members of hte
Barangay Health Workers (BHW). The women were interested although they are senior
citizens. The launching program was done to give the participants the information
regarding the extension program. It was followed by the seminar on the topics:
The participants were also oriented on what to bring during the trainings that will follow
after the launching every weekend.
The women were given manicuring/ pedicuring ad hair cutting implements. Most of them
were happy to have their hair cut and their finger and toenails cleaned. The day was
rewarding because most of them learned the techniques on how to cut hair and do
pedicure and manicure.

exhibit ceremony held on December 2, 2016 at the Brgy. Capandanan, Lingayen,
Pangasinan.
The culminating program was attended by twenty participants who managed to finish
the four-day schedule. The participants were happy to display what they have learned
and their outputs made at home. Some of them had received orders of squash puto,
malunggay embutido and others; some even started to sew their own utility bags and
hair accessories and Christmas decors.

doing unproductive activities, the women had learned something new, something

Miss Maritess is now reaping fruits of her effort in investing time to learn from the
training. She does pedicure and manicure to customers who want their toes and nails
clened. She has her business space at their residence. At home, she collects P 35.00
for either pedicure or manicure. P90.00 for the combo of foot spa and pedicure.
For home service, she collects P50.00 for a pedicure or for a manicure. When she was
invited to provide service in PSU, she generated two-thousand pesos in one day. The
Campus Extension Unit promises Maritess to be invited should there be special
occasions or activities in the Campus where she can provide service to faculty or
personnel.
Her business ad is more conspicuous now as a tarp is hung outside her house in
Capandanan, Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Monitoring effort is conducted by PSU with the assistance of the Brgy. Council to see
the progress of Maritess’ beauty parlor.
