RESEARCH PROBLEM STATEMENT

I. PROBLEM TITLE.
The challenges present in the transformation of Internal combustion engine powered vehicle
to Electric vehicle, the performance of EV, effect of EV to grid and to achieve net zero
pollution.

II. RESEARCH PROBLEM STATEMENT.

• Performance of conventional EV. There are many disadvantage in current generation EV.
The battery powered EV have limited range, long charging time, huge initial cost, need to
replace after 7-8 years, and sluggish performance.
• The Effects of Non-linear Load. The non-liner load connected to grid will cause quality of
power in the grid. The battery charger in every house will increase the harmonics in the grid.
• The Steep Increase in Load. The power generating capacity in our country not sufficient to
supply the current demand and the usage of EV will increase the demand further.
• Pollution. The pollution caused by the internal combustion engine is in alarming condition.
One of the main reason for global warming is the pollution caused by internal combustion
engine powered vehicle.
• Depletion of Fossil Fuel. The need for alternative methods to generate energy for the electric
vehicle is increasing due to the depletion of fossil fuels.

III. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

• Improving The performance of EV. The performance of the EV can be improved by

adopting new technologies.
• Centralisation of EV charging. Rather than installing charging point in each consumer load
we can centralise the charging station to overcome the harmonic distortion.
• To Reduce the Dependency On Fossil Fuels. By implementing large scale production of
renewable energy generation such as solar energy and wind energy.
• To Reduce Pollution. By transforming to EV and renewable energy generation we can
achieve net zero carbon foot print.

IV. METHODS USED

• Flow Battery Based EV. The conventional the conventional electric vehicle is using Li-ion
battery as their energy storage system and that cause many disadvantages to this system. Here
instead of Li-ion battery, Vanadium Redox Flow Battery is used. By implementing this, all
the disadvantages of the conventional electric vehicle can be avoided and the performance can
be improved.
• Electrolyte Charging Station. The charging of electrolyte is done in charging station so that
centralisation of charging is achieved.
• Renewable Energy. By the implementation of renewable energy sources such as solar and
wind energy generation we can reduce the dependency on fossil fuels.

V. RESEARCH OUTCOME

By the implementation of the flow battery base EV all the disadvantages of the conventional
electric vehicle are overcome and the performance of EV is improved. The effect of EV to the
grid is also reduced.
ABSTRACT
Electric vehicle is a developing technology, so that there are many advantages and disadvantages for this system. This paper
deals with the advancement of electric vehicle and how to overcome its sluggish performance. All the conventional electric
vehicle is using Li-ion battery as their energy storage system and that cause many disadvantages to this system. Here instead
of Li-ion battery, Vanadium Redox Flow Battery is used. By implementing this, all the disadvantages of the conventional
electric vehicle can be avoided. VRFB is a different type of battery that uses vanadium ion on a different oxidation state to
store chemical potential energy. The implementation of VRFB in electric vehicle will improve its flexibility as much as
conventional internal combustion engine power vehicles. The transformation from the internal combustion engine vehicle to
Hybrid vehicle or plug-in vehicle cannot be achieved in a rapid manner. The need for alternative methods to generate energy
for the electric vehicle is increasing due to the depletion of fossil fuels, global warming and pollution caused by the internal
combustion engine. HEV incorporates internal composition engine, electric machines and power electronic equipment. This
paper deals with the overview of HEV and present their history, advantages, disadvantages, classification, vehicle types, energy
management strategies and some other related information. The rapid transformation of internal combustion engine to
electrical or hybrid vehicle will create a huge risk in the grid systems and also buy producing the energy by burning coal and
using that power to charge the electric vehicle will increase its carbon footprint, so that net zero emission cannot be achieved.
This transformation can only be done after the implementing renewable energy generation in large scale.
