Superstition

Irrational as they may be, we all have a superstition or two, whether it’s a lucky number or an
unexplained event in our lives. Superstition also explains why many buildings do not have a 13th
floor – preferring to label it 12B on elevator button panels because of concerns about superstitious
tenants. Generally, a superstition is any belief or practice considered by non-practitioners to be
irrational or supernatural, attributed to fate or magic, perceived supernatural influence, or fear of that
which is unknown. It is commonly applied to beliefs and practices surrounding luck, amulets,
astrology, fortune telling, spirits, and certain paranormal entities, particularly the belief that future
events can be foretold by specific (apparently) unrelated prior events. Superstitions generally give us
meanings to the often random nature of luck

Let’s join Advanced this Sunday to discuss more about this topic!

Questions to ponder:

1. What is superstition?
2. Do you know any superstitions in Vietnam or other countries? Which ones do you believe?
3. Do you believe that some numbers, dates, colors are lucky or unlucky?
4. Has anything ever happened to you that you cannot explain?
5. Why do some people believe in superstitions? Where do superstition comes from? Do you
think that there is truth behind superstitions?
6. Are there any good things about superstition? If not, how to stop believing in superstition?
