Do Now - 10 minutes ● Scholars enter the


room silently
● They put any
unnecessary books
on the cart and find a
seat
● Scholars complete do
now questions for the
first 5 minutes, submit
and sit silently when
they are complete
● When timer goes off,
scholars turn to
discuss the do now
question in a turn and
talk
● After 1 minute,
scholars are asked to
share out thoughts
and responses

Launch 15 minutes ● Music theory review


● Review note value,
note names
● Introduce solfege and
how it intersects with
the note names we
already know
● Activity: scholars label
note names and
solfege names on
worksheet

Discourse 30 minutes ● Scholars work to add


chords to their song
lyrics. They add
melody and tempo
● Scholars are using
ukuleles or pianos for
this project

Do Now - 5 minutes ● Lyric Analysis. How


do we make music
that matches the
feeling of the words in
a song?
● Listening activity
● Turn and talk: If you
had to add
instrumental to this
poem, what kind of
music would you use?
What instruments?
How fast or slow
would the song be?

Do Now Activity 5 minutes ● Group activity: create


a soundtrap for the
poem discussed
above

Discourse/ Rehearsal 30 minutes ● Last day to work on


song- scholars have
written lyrics and
added chords. Today
is the final day to
rehearse their song
and make sure they
like their lyrics and
chord choices.
