What’s In: Activity one – Sense the Message
As what I have seen in this poster, it clearly depicts and convey the message about the COVID-
19 to the audience. It serves a reminder or notice that gets every reader’s attention because of
its color and symbol that looks like an alarming situation, where a quick action or response is a
must and needed. As for technical codes, the editing of the COVID-19 is precise, where it
shows danger, cautious and immediate response. Lastly for the written codes, the language that
was used in the poster is not ambiguous and very comprehensible. It uses simple words yet a
very strong and convincing to the reader which has a huge impact.
Guide Question:
The message in the poster is, if you have symptoms or showing a symptom of COVID-19
diseases, you must report it directly to keep the spreading of the virus contain or minimized. I
identify them by looking to what is written in the poster and looking at the symbol.

Activity 3 – I Look Fair or Square?

A. 1. It started when Starbucks filed suit against Elpreya arguing that their logo, a woman’s face
within a green circle, was too similar of Starbucks. However, the Korean Intellectual Property
Tribunal disagreed and help that the marks were too dissimilar to be confused. The court
rejected Starbucks’ claim that the marks were too alike, noting the mermaid versus goddess
distinction.
B. 2. I think the court’s decision will need to look thoroughly about this case since this is
basically a serious file because if I were to ask it really did show a Copyright infringement. Plus,
the PayPal’s company submitted 110 pages of mobile users who got confuse between the 2
apps which is a serious case. Currently, the Pandora changed the color of their logo and now
the case was settled with veracious judgement of the court.
C. 3. Not a fair use, because the letters were unpublished and served as the “backbone of the
biography—so much so that without the, the ensuing biography would have failed”. In other
words, the letters may have been used more to capitalize on Salinger’s popularity than to
provide a critical examination of the author. Also, Salinger had never authorized the
reproduction of his work.
OPEN LETTER
Upholding Intellectual
Property Rights

To whom it may concern:

Intellectual property protection is critical to fostering innovation. Without

protection of ideas, businesses and individuals would not reap the full benefits of
their inventions and would focus less on research and development. Similarly, artists
would not be fully compensated for their creations and cultural vitality would suffer
as a result. Intellectual property (IP) contributes enormously to our national and state
economies. Dozens of industries across our economy rely on the adequate
enforcement of their patents, trademarks, and copyrights, while consumers use IP
to ensure they are purchasing safe, guaranteed products. I truly believe that IP rights
must be protected and practice by individuals.
In this COVID-19 pandemic, everywhere around the world, advertisement, and
virtual concerts have been posted in the internet to raise funds to help people in this
crisis. However, such good gestures may also be used to abuse intellectual property
rights. As a media and information literacy student, I, myself, writing an open letter
not just for organizers, artists, patrons, consumers but also to everyone, to always
uphold intellectual property rights. This concern is recognized by the law which
stated in the Republic Act of the Philippines No. 8293 “AN ACT PRESCRIBING
THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY CODE AND ESTABLISHING THE
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE, PROVIDE FOR ITS POWER AND
FUNCTIONS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES” under Section 217 refers that any
person infringing any right secured by provisions of this Act or aiding or abetting
such infringement shall be guilty of a crime and will face consequences.
Intellectual property has the shelf life of a banana
