Three Square organizations support so many people in need of food. It was established in
2007 in Nevada serving the residents of Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda, and Clark Counties. They
firmly believe to provide food to hungry people while also eliminating to end hunger within the
community. They work with many partners such as nonprofit and faith organizations, schools,
and after school and feeding sites within the community to reach those struggling people and to
end the risk of hunger. I will be describing my volunteer experience at Three Square and how it
benefitted individuals and the community. I have encountered a lot of new people as well as
Three Square has two campuses in Las Vegas, the main campus and a Senior Hunger
Campus. I volunteered at both campuses and their system of scheduling volunteer hours is great
because it allows you pick what time and date you want to volunteer for. That helped me out a
lot because it offered a lot of options and days that I was available, and it showed the different
locations of where the food distribution was going to be or working in the warehouse at one of
the campuses. The first couple of days I volunteered at the Senior Hunger Campus Warehouse.
All I did was grab a bag and place fresh produce in it, but I had to follow the pattern of placing
how many different types of fresh produce into the bag. There was a goal to achieve which was
470 bags of produce within the time frame of two hours, but it was okay if we did not hit the goal
because the next set of people that were going to come in could finish it. Most of the time my
group hit the goal and we all felt good because we knew that the bags of produce were going to
the homebound seniors. Those bags of produce go to those sixty years of age who don’t have
food or can’t physically go to the store. Sometimes Three Square goes themselves to deliver the
bags of produce to those people, or they can pick it up at a partnered church. I believe this
program benefits many homebound seniors because they're getting healthy produce and at the
The second campus I went to is the Main Campus. It was much different from the senior
campus. It allowed me to help different types of other people and do more stuff in this campus. It
just adds another helping hand. During my time at this campus, I did the same thing of packing
produce to ship to different partners to distribute them to the seniors for the first half-hour. As
soon as my group and I were done, we were advised to sort the Amazon products, produce, and
packages. I was surprised because I work for Amazon and I did not know they provided
products, produce, and packages to Three Square. We sorted protein powders, apple juices,
coffee grounds to toilet paper, cat litter, eggs, meats, and other essentials. We place them into
boxes, and they were ready to go to the multiple partners that Three Square gives their donations
to. It was an extraordinary feeling to experience that families or individuals were obtaining these
types of groceries given from Amazon. It supports them because food is overpriced and it’s a
To add, I also helped in packing lunches for students at the main campus. It was called,
“Kids Café Kitchen”, I helped pack meals for kids inside the kitchen. It was a great experience,
and it was typically more of frozen foods such as meats, bread, milk, juices, and fruits. It benefits
so many children because some kids get their food intake only when they’re at school and on the
weekends, they may have nothing. I help assemble boxed meals so that children can take home
food on Fridays. They won’t have to stress about not eating, this makes me happy that I am
helping children especially with donating food to them. Overall, it was a fun, rewarding
experience. I know I completed my part, but I imagine the people receiving the donations can be
