EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY AYALA 2

Personal Philosophy

From sitting down on the carpet singing songs to sitting on a desk all the way to

switching the tassel to the other side, I have always known that being a teacher was always what

I wanted because of the direct influences they have in the future. My past and now teachers have

repeatedly supported me, advised me how to accomplish my goals and encouraged me to love

learning. What I have acquires from the previous years and now, I would want for one day to

create the same for my students. I know teaching is a stressful career, but I genuinely believe that

it is rewarding in so many possible ways. There is so much that comes with it but just making a

difference in a youthful person’s life is incredible to think about. Being a teacher requires

patience, creativity, commitment, and compassion and many other things. I believe I have all

those skills naturally especially being compassionate. This can give students an opportunity to

trust and be able to love coming to class without any worries.

Creativity for me is a big one because I always like to think outside the box, I like to go

out of my way to cause things to happen when it is out of anyone’s control. I say I can be

prepared for anything that enters my way! My understanding of the school system I want to enter

is how big of a district it is, reaching from the fifth largest district in the United States. Ever

since the pandemic of 2019 hit, it hit hard on a lot of schools due to the challenges of online

learning. Teachers, parents, and even students were not prepared for this difficulty, especially

getting to know various websites, managing to be attentive all day to a computer screen and

having students to pay attention. As far as I seen, everyone is getting comfortable with the idea

of online learning but sometimes can be difficult because of connection issues and not being able

to be in person! I think it will get better soon, for now just to hang on, everyone is doing great!

I believe that Progressivism dictate my current beliefs about education. This is a student-

centered form of instruction where students ask questions and seek answers. This approach may

work for a lot of students, it can be based off projects and portfolios to create a more of a

interactive approach by bringing the lesson to life. There are so many ways to demonstrate

Progressivism in the classroom. Some that I would like to use in the future are incorporating

games into lesson plans or help on a quiz/test, assign projects that are incorporated with lessons

so the class has more information on it, having discussions or partner group work which a lot of

students might like. I would do anything to have my students involved with the classroom like

creating rules and expectations as well as consequences for rules that might be broken at some

point. Also, in creating positive consequences or rewards for students meeting those expectations

and rules. I also think this education philosophy approach would be beneficial in socializing with

others, breaking out of their shells, and making students feel welcomed. To add, my knowledge

of historical events set the stage for how I will think about our future children is acknowledging

schools and recognizing what the student’s specific needs are and what type of area the school is

in. This will aid me to figure out the student and the school to a more favorable outcome of

influencing the students in a more elevated level, obtaining the needs accommodated or modified

and making a difference in both the students and school.

Moreover, the Education for All Handicap Children Act also known as Public Law 94-

142 where later was changed to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is one of

the most historical events upon education! It was enacted by the United States Congress in 1975

and required all public schools accepting federal funds to provide equitable access to education

for children with physical and mental disabilities. This shows that all special need students

possess the equal right to have access to education and lunch just as the other students are. This

act additionally requires goals which perfects and enhances their understanding of what is taught

based on their circumstances. This historical event sets the stage for children with special needs

because they are receiving the value in educational skills they need and as a prospective teacher,

I would cherish this in mind because everyone deserves an education!

To continue, some strategies I will implement in the classroom is making sure every

student is acknowledged whether from encouraging feedback, rewards, asking how they are

doing. I feel that this will cause the student to feel encouraged and strive to do more then what

they can already. I will also incorporate cooperating learning which is a part of the philosophy

Progressivism. This will cause students to learn from one another and to develop their critical

skills, communication skills, problems solving skills, and more. I would make certain that there

is student movement around the classroom to ensure they are positively engaged and not burn

out from sitting on a desk the whole day. To add, some of the approaches to learning that I would

use are incorporating a mixture of kinesthetic and expeditionary learning as well as having a

teacher centered classroom. In some cases, shifting the classroom to a more student-centered

classroom as well. I feel that everyone will get to being approach and be exposed to several

methods to learning. I would differentiate the students on levels from how they are doing in the

class from those who are not doing so good to focus more on them until everyone is on the same

page.

In addition, some of the qualities I need to possess to move forward in this career are

preparation of engaging lessons, promoting a love of learning, and having self-reflection. To be

prepared I would have to adjust to each students need and cater to the needs of each student

while creating lesson plans by considering the way the lesson could shift to the emotions,

thoughts, and concerns that could affect each student and to ensure that each student understands

why they are learning that specific lesson by the end of the day. I would also self-reflect of my

strengths and weaknesses as a teacher to improve and encourage the same to my students. To

add, I would also want every student to develop a passion to learn. When they enjoy learning,

there would be more participation as well as perform better academically and include value to

their education. I have thought about a lot of opportunities to start my career but first I would

want to put my foot in the door by seeking opportunities like being an assistant at a school,

helping in schools, or just getting a job in a safe key or even a tutoring position. I believe that all

those opportunities may deliver a more valuable picture in achieving my goals until I become a

licensed teacher.

In conclusion, this course introduction to elementary education has enhanced my

knowledge and my awareness of the classroom, students, and community. From my field

observation to undertake my own research about the field caused me to realize there is frequently

hard work and dedication to put in, especially for the students. Every student can become

someone they require; I would transfer to them the same knowledge and motivation just as my

past teachers did the same for me. I would obtain accommodations to the classroom type to adapt

each student’s needs, provide breaks, and inspire them to work hard! By getting my foot in the

door in the field would set me up as a prospective teacher because I would develop relationships

with colleagues, administration, observe and ask as many questions as possible to be a great

aspect in the society.
