Notes:
• 8:25 to 8:30 Pass out the class roster and have students sign their name in the
space provided. Go over Classroom rules/ expectations (Posted on classroom wall)
• 9:25-10:15 Specials: Walk students to and from Specials.
• 11:12-11:17 BATHROOM BREAK: Have students get in line (pick a leader and
caboose) Walk students to the bathroom. Students can eat and drink water.
• 11:46-12:34 LUNCH/ RECESS/DUTY: Walk students to and from lunch.
• 2:15-2:20 Before Dismissal- Make sure students sign their names in the roster,
mark if students left early, return any materials they used like books,
whiteboards/markers, and make sure they leave class clean and all chairs pushed
in.
• List of student helpers posted on board (Pass out copies of papers,
whiteboards/markers, books)

Writing (8:30-9:25)
Objective: Students will work together to understand the “Writing
Process”. They will work on common topic sentences for each of their
paragraphs and organize their information.
Materials: Students know where to get research handout, their notebooks, classroom
textbook. They need pencils, writing chart paper guide, and paper.
Procedure: Discuss what a topic sentence should look like for each paragraph
(Capitalization, punctuation, main idea, details) Inform students that they will create their
own topic sentences and begin working and organizing facts within each topic. Describe
how to create a 5-sentence paragraph. Review the expectations of each detail starting
from topic sentence to ending sentence and send students to groups. While students in
group assist/monitor/challenge students in groups.
Closure: Have those groups of students review what they done and what they will focus
on tomorrow or the hardest aspect they did not know.

Math (10:16-11:11)
Objective: Confidently add or subtract 2-digit numbers using
mental math strategies.
Materials: Place value blocks/cards, whiteboard/ markers, math
handbook, hundreds chart.
Procedure: Write out 2-digit problems (addition or subtraction) and have students figure
out how to solve them by using mental math strategies and then go over what strategy
they used for warm up. Have students work independently. Follow page guide on Math
Handbook for addition/subtraction lesson problems and have students do handout from
Math Handbook after. Pull groups to work with (if there is time and if needed to)
Closure: Quick summary of lesson, go over any questions.
Math (11:18-11:45)
Objective: Show and go through strategies for addition and subtraction mental math to
break down problems.

Materials: White board/markers, notebooks, pencils, math handbook, hundreds chart,
mental math strategies outline.
Procedure: Discuss with student’s what strategies they know and let them show you how
they solve a problem with using a strategy. Have different groups of students work
together along with the teacher while others continue working on solving problems with
strategies.
Closure: Summary of mental math strategies and let group of students present what
strategies they learned and how it helped them.

Reading (12:35-2:10)

Reading “Small Groups” (12:35-12:50)


Each small group will have mini phonic lessons for needed skill in the text (spelling,
vocab) Working with 1 chapter of the textbook.
Objective: Students use context page/ heading to make predictions and identifying the
main topic of each chapter.
Materials: Chapter book, notebook, pencils, word cards, whiteboard/markers
Procedures: Preview/ review text in the chapter book and how we use them in everyday
life and why they are helpful. Predict what will happen in the next chapter. Based on text
details. Student in groups will go over and retell each other page/chapter and what they
liked/disliked from the chapter. Teacher should be asking questions about the chapter
read.
Closure: Handout activity worksheet about creating story plots.

Reading “Whole Group” (12:50-1:10)


Objective: Students able to identify the moral in a story.
Materials: Copies of story, notebook/ paper, pencils.
Procedures: Review with students what a fable is and how it can teach a moral or life
lesson. Read story to better understand the moral in the story and distinguish questions
of the story. Have students find text evidence to support answers to the questions. Have
students draw an outline with the story title, main characters, the challenge, and moral
while reading the story have them write each part of the story into the outline of the
paper.
Closure: Students should present their outline to retell the story to a partner.

Reading (1:10-2:10)
Each small group will have mini phonic lessons for needed skill in the text with
vocabulary. Working with 1 chapter of the textbook. Vocab words are used for students to
be stronger in vocabulary.
Objective: Students able to expand their vocabulary.
Materials: Vocab word cards, pencil, whiteboard/marker, notebook.
Procedures: Review with students selected vocab words. Have students word predict to
sentences and ask students what vocab word could make sense in the sentence given.
Given the selected vocab words have students get in partners and relate those vocab

words into feelings/descriptions and then let them present what are there
feelings/descriptions towards the selected words. Go over a situation and example within
those selected vocab words so students can make a real-life example out of those
selected vocab words. Have students partner up and flash vocab word cards to their
partners, asking them what the words means to them.
Closure: Students present their meaning of selected vocabulary words to describe
everyday things.
