Learning Prepositions of Location

Preposition
Prepositions are words which show the relationship between a noun or a
pronoun object and some other words in the sentence. They are always
followed by nouns or pronouns.

Prepositions are classified into three groups as below:

Always remember:
1 Prepositions are always followed by a "noun", never followed by a verb.

Gerund working

2 A preposition cannot be followed by a verb. If we want to follow a
preposition by a verb, we must use the "-ing" form which is really a gerund
or verb in noun form.

Example:

1. The flower vase is on the table.


2. Henry is looking for the new job.
3. We ate after the meeting.
 
 
 
 
Prepositions of place. (at, in, on ):

 At is used  for a POINT


 In is used  for an ENCLOSED SPACE 
 On is used  for a SURFACE 

Basic difference between at,in and on can be best described by following


set of examples.
 

at POINT in ENCLOSED SPACE on SURFACE


at the corner in the garden on the wall

at the school in Mumbai on the roof

at the gate in USA on the window

at the bottom of the page in a bowl on the cover

at the end of the book in my bag on the floor

at college in a lift (elevator) on a bicycle, on a motorbike
at the roadside in the museum on my seat
at reception in the hall on the stage
