Challenge: Writing SMALL goals.

#1: The first part of a SMALL goal is self-selected. Your goals should be your own. Choose
goals that fit into your life and only change behaviors that you are willing to negotiate. Be
realistic.

What do you want to accomplish?

I want to go to bed an hour earlier every night this week.

#2:The second part of a SMALL goal is measurable. Develop a concrete way to track your goal.

How will you know when your goal has been met?

Based on what time I have to wake up in the morning I'll plan an extra hour for sleep the night
before, track what those times will be and then what time I actually went to bed so when I look
back at the end of the week I'll know if I was actually able to get that extra hour.

#3: The third part of a SMALL goal is action-oriented. Having an action plan allows you to
complete the steps needed to make your goals a reality.

What steps are you going to take?

I need to make sure that I have all my homework completed in correlation of my work, school
and social schedule and make sure my priorities are met before the set time I need to head to bed.
I'll have to look ahead at all my responsibilities and wants for the week and set them for times
when they can be completed before the set hour.

#4: The fourth part of a SMALL goal life-linked. Goals are best achieved if they work within
your lifestyle and match your challenges and strengths.

How does this fit your everyday life?

I usually measure how many hours of sleep I expect to get every night and attempt to get all my
work done to get at least 7 but sometimes things pop up and I only get around 6. This will be
basically the same thing but with more meticulous planning so I'm always getting 8 and I'll make
the plans at the beginning of the day instead of doing it towards the evening.

#5: The last part of a SMALL goal is long-term. You want to be healthy for life so any changes
you consider should be something you could see yourself doing over the long term.

How will you maintain your goal long-term?

I think my problem with sleep is that I kind of hate having to go to sleep so it's never been a
priority but I know how important it is. So if I could make prioritizing my sleep a part of my
weekly planning I think it would really change the game for my energy and mood. I think that
just by planning for it ahead of time and making it a priority as much as school and work I'll be
able to make it a habit instead of just a week long goal.
