Learning Outcome: To complete the nine steps in hypothesis testing.
A. Accidents in big cities are often attributed to road designs. One can easily deduce that wider
roads lead to vehicular accidents because cars tend to overspeed on these kinds of roads.
Suppose the number of accidents are recorded in five different places where roads are wider
than usual and the following data is available for analysis. p-value =0.03

Compute the R-value and complete the 9 steps in hypothesis testing using the problem
above!

➢ Do accidents in big cities are often attributed to road designs?

Ho: There is no significant relationship between the accidents in big cities and road designs?
Ha: There is a significant relationship between the accidents in big cities and road designs?

➢ A road design could guarantee an accident in big cities.

9. Implication
➢ There is a complexity encountered to understand the relationship between road
geometric design elements and road accidents rate because of the interrelations
among the geometric design elements themselves and also other accident-related
factors, however it is obvious that some geometric design elements such as short
sight distance, wider roads and small curve radius can significantly increase the road
accidents rate and severity. Moreover, a combination of certain geometric design
elements can result in serious accidents occurrence
