1. INTRODUCTION
Food poisoning is a disease caused by toxins or bacteria in food and has now become a
problem for the community. Over the centuries, the type, severity, and impact of foodborne illness
have changed, but there are still differences between regions, countries, and communities. (WHO,
2015).
Food poisoning occurs quite often in Indonesia. In 2014, the total news of poisoning
incidents reported from the mass media to the National Poisoning Information Center of the
Indonesian Food and Drug Administration was as many as 186 (one hundred and eighty-six)
poisoning incidents occurred in several regions of Indonesia.
Based on the data, a total of 135 incidents (72.5%) were incidents of food poisoning
(BPOM, 2014). While throughout January to June 2015, the total news of reported poisoning
incidents was 87 (eighty-seven), poisoning incidents occurred in various regions of Indonesia. A

total of 75 incidents (65.2%) were incidents of food poisoning with the number of victims reaching
2,033 people and 18 of them died (BPOM, 2015).
Central Java Province became the highest klb contributing province in Indonesia. While in
2013 klb food poisoning in Central Java while in 2013 klb food poisoning in Java as many as 17
incidents with 4,935 people exposed, while the sick as many as 952 people and died 1 person with
attack rate (AR 19.30%) and case fatality rate (CFR 0.1% (BPOM RI, 2013).
Based on the news in the daily newspaper Radar Banyumas dated September 6, 2018,
there was a case of poisoning in SD Negeri 1 Kutasari. It was reported that there were 10 students
who experienced poisoning due to consuming ice cream purchased from hawkers, after eating the
ice cream they experienced symptoms such as: dizziness, stomach nausea to want to vomit. Based
on the investigation, The Baturraden Police Chief reported that the ice cream smelled of the drug
and did not list its expiry date (Radar Banyumas, 2018).
Poisoning is an important public health issue. It is an important part of the emergency
services application. It takes a serious approach with the right answers to a first aid application that
is done correctly and on time. Currently, the success of treatment can be improved by increasing
awareness and protective measures related to the problem. In the case of poisoning, proper first aid
is lifesaving, and this is an application that should be provided by all individuals regardless of
medical studies. (Goktas, S., et al. 2014).
Poisoning is a condition that can be life-threatening, immediately handled properly.
Therefore, everyone should be able to perform first aid (Thygerson, 2011). But previously in general
emergencies people often panicked, chaos and hysterical ignorance ,ignorance of what to do to solve
the problem. This doubt arises between the two because of ignorance and fear of the consequences
of the cause (Junaidi, 2010).
Based on a preliminary study conducted on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 to 5 Elementary
Students N 1 Kutasari District Baturaden Banyumas resulted in answers to several questions posed
to students, it can be concluded that most have less knowledge in first aid food poisoning. Three
students said the handling of first aid on food poisoning directly took the drug without knowing
what it meant to deal with the problem of food poisoning, 2 other students said they did not know if
there was food poisoning what they should do they also said they had never received a health
education about food poisoning assistance, so did not know how the right action. With these
problems, researchers are interested in conducting research on the influence of Health Education on
knowledge and attitudes in food poisoning first aid in elementary school students. As well as the
reason researchers took elementary school respondents because elementary students who often and
prone to food poisoning and in choosing or buying snacks still do not understand which foods are
healthy and which are not, as well as foods that are striking colors are foods that they often buy
because they are attractive. So that with the provision of food poisoning first aid health education, it
is expected that later it can increase the knowledge of elementary students so that they can share the
knowledge obtained to other students.

3. Results
3.1 Characteristics of Respondent
Table 1. Characteristics of respondents (n=79)
Characteristics Frequency Percentage (%)
Respondents Age
9 3 3,8
10 29 36,7
11 46 58,2
12 1 1.3
Respondent Gender
Male 35 44,3
Female 44 55,7
Respondent Class
4 33 41,8
5 46 58,2
ToAmount 79 100.0

Based on table above, the age distribution of respondents from 79 respondents showed the lowest
number of respondents, namely the age of 9 years as many as 3 respondents with a percentage (3.8%), and
the highest respondents aged 11 years as many as 46 respondents with a percentage (58.2%). so it can be
known that the most respondents are at the age of 11 years.
Based on table 4.1 gender distribution of 79 respondents, the most respondents are women as many
as 44 respondents with a percentage (55.7%) and men as many as 35 respondents with a percentage (44.3%),
so it can be known in this study the most gender is in female respondents.
Based on table 4.1 above, there was a class distribution of 79 respondents, the most respondents
were 5th graders with 46 respondents with a percentage (58.2%), and 4th grade as many as 33 respondents
with a percentage (41.8%), so it can also be known that this study is the 5th grader who participated in this
study.
Class distribution of 79 respondents, the most respondents were grade 5 students with 46
respondents with a percentage (58.2%), and grade 4 as many as 33 respondents with a percentage (41.8%), so
it can be seen also that this study is grade 5 students who most participated in this research.

3.2. Knowledge scores before and after being given Health Education about food poisoning first aid

Parameter Pre test Post tset

Mean 8.78 13.47

Median 9.00 14.00
Minimum 5 12
Maximum 14 14

The table above illustrates that knowledge of food poisoning first aid prior to the intervention in the
form of Health Education has a minimum score of 5 maximum values of 14, a median of 9.00 and an average
of 8.78. After the intervention, the minimum value increased to 12, the maximum value was 14, the median
was 14 and the average increased to 13.47.

3.3. Attitude scores before and after being given Health Education about food poisoning first aid

Parameter Pre test Post tset

Mean 82.05 90.78

Median 82.00 91.00
Minimum 72 85
Maximum 88 96

Based on the table above, it can be seen that the attitudes of elementary school students before given
health education, has a minimum score of 72, a maximum score of 88, has a median of 82.00 and a mean
score of 82.05. After being given health education, the minimum score was 85, the maximum score was 96,
the median was 91.00 and the average score was 90.78.
Discussion

Conclusions
Based on the results of research and discussion on "The Effect of Health Education on The
Knowledge and Attitudes of Food Poisoning First Aid" produces conclusions and suggestions as follows:
Respondents in the study were between the ages of 9-11 years old with the majority of respondents being
from grade 5 as many as 46 respondents (58.2%) and all (100%) had never received health education on food
poisoning first aid, Before doing Health Education about knowledge has an average score of 8.78,After
Health Education on knowledge, there was an increase in the average score to 13.47, Before doing Health
Education about attitudes has an average score of 82.05, After Health Education on attitudes, there was an
increase in the average score to 90.78.
