Cultural Influences
Activity 1. Evaluate cultural influences that assist individuals and families to manage health-related
situational crises or transitions?

 The interests and honor of the family are more important than those of individual family
members. Older family members are respected, and their authority is often unquestioned. Due
to respect for authority, disagreement with the recommendations of health care professionals is
avoided. However, lack of disagreement does not indicate that the patient and family agree with
or will follow treatment recommendations. Among Chinese patients, because the behavior of
the individual reflects on the family, mental illness or any behavior that indicates lack of self-
control may produce shame and guilt.

Activity 2. Strategies and Tool for  Reducing Health disparities: enumerate.

1. Transform health care by expanding insurance coverage, increasing the availability of care, and
introducing effective initiatives, such as medical homes.

2. Strengthen the health and human services workforce by recruiting undergraduates from minority
communities for public health and biomedical sciences careers, improve health care translation, and
support more training of community health workers, such as promotoras.

3. Use the CDC’s new Community Transformation Grants and other funding to lower rates of
cardiovascular disease, childhood obesity, tobacco-related diseases, maternal and child health diseases,
flu, and asthma.

4. Advance scientific knowledge and innovation by increasing patient-centered research, including

undertaking the new health data collection and analysis authorized by the Affordable Care Act.

5. Increase the efficiency, transparency and accountability of all HHS programs.

Activity 3. What types of accessible health care anf health outcome disparities exist nationally?

1. 1. Mortality.

2. Life expectancy.

3. Burden of disease.

4. Mental health.
5. Uninsured/underinsured.

6. Lack of access to care.

Critical Thinking:

1. How does the culture of an organization affect the quality of care provided?

 the stronger is organizational culture, the more effective is organization. ... It is concluded that
university organizational culture makes ground for quality management and is directly
connected to development. We found that overall, positive organisational and workplace
cultures were consistently associated with a wide range of patient outcomes such as reduced
mortality rates, falls, hospital acquired infections and increased patient satisfaction.
