Hello, students! You are now on the next phase of this
module and I would like to congratulate you for reaching
here. I assume that you already know and have learned the
research designs, target samples, and instruments which
are needed in this module for you to systematically plan the
data collection procedure.

This module is set to understand easily and conveniently,

for you to understand the step-by-step data collection
procedure. Hence, it is necessary that you have those
research designs, target samples, and instruments while
you are learning in this module.

Should there be any questions or clarifications, feel free to

call out or ask your teachers. They are much willing to
help you out.

WRITER: SACHE LOISE I. MORIMOTO, MARAHAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

To start with our learning, it is best to set our target goals at

the end of this module. In this phase, you will be learning to

plan data collection systematically and should be able to

accomplish the following objectives:

1. Identify different quantitative data collection

instruments;

2. List down the steps in gathering the research data;

and

3. Plan own data collection procedure.

WRITER: SACHE LOISE I. MORIMOTO, MARAHAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Introduction
Planning and making systematic procedure constitute a significant part in making
research. No research can be undertaken without thinking and planning. For instance,
we can associate it on the step-by-step process we undergo in baking a cake,
assembling an appliances or furniture, or even dancing. I am sure that you also
experience such things and follow the procedure earnestly.

Planning is the overall flow of the research. It consists of step-by-step procedures

or an outline of what the researchers intend to do. This also helps the researchers to
proceed directly and execute the action which allows them to track their own pace and
can easily conduct their data gathering. During this time, the researchers can reflect and
analyze things that might need considerations in administering the data collection. This
allows them to evaluate and align the type of research design they have used, target
populations and samples they have selected, as well as the intervention and instruments
they utilized. Let us remember that an organized plan of action with systematic execution
of procedure will bring a fruitful result.

I think you are now prepared to learn for our new lesson and
excited to accomplish the target objectives.
So let’s continue…

Word Search Puzzles
Instruction: Encircle the words which you think are related to Data Collection
Procedure. (Hint: There are 15 words related to our topic.)

You are doing great! How did you feel the activity? Did you find
it fun? Is it challenging finding those words? Those words are
your essential keys in understanding our lesson this day.

WRITER: SACHE LOISE I. MORIMOTO, MARAHAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

What you have done earlier are terms associated to Data
Collection Procedure. Since you are now introduced to
those terms, it will help you to link and familiarize in
understanding our lesson.

Guide Questions:

1. What terms did you find out in the activity?

2. How do these terms relate to each other?

3. Why do you think those terms are related to our lesson?

WRITER: SACHE LOISE I. MORIMOTO, MARAHAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

I hope you are now ready to our main topic. What you will learn
in this lesson will help you in making your own step-by-step
process in planning data collection procedure.

Data Collection Procedure

What is Quantitative Data Collection?

Quantitative Data collection are methods used by researchers to fill out an
instrument depending on their research needs, these are technique in physically obtaining
data to be used in research study (Johnson & Christensen, 2014).

WRITER: SACHE LOISE I. MORIMOTO, MARAHAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

In short, methods of data collection are technique that you as a researcher
physically uses to obtain research data from your research respondents. Thus, you must
pay attention to the construction of your data collection instrument that is used to collect
data to make it sure it works well and align to your research needs.
Planning Your Data Collection Procedure
A data collection procedure is a detailed document that describes the exact steps
as well as the sequence that needs to be followed in gathering the data (Prachi, n.d.).
This procedure is important so that you can ensure that everyone on the group or in the
team are on the same pace with regards to the data gathering plan. It assures you that
the information is transmitted correctly to the people in the organization/institution you
would like to conduct.
In general, the purpose of making this plan is to make sure that the data collected
are meaningful and valid. You need this data collection procedure for you to become
efficient by not wasting time and resources collecting data that are irrelevant to your
research needs (Master of Project Academy, n.d.).
There is no general format on the step-by-step process in planning Quantitative
Data Collection Procedure. The following steps provided below are adapted by Creswell
(2012) and Chua (2017).

about it? Do not forget that in planning data collection procedure,
it should anchor on what your research needs is and must align to
the research design, target samples and instruments you have
made.
Now, Let’s have a practice in planning data collection procedure.
I know you can do it.

hope so. You are now on the last part of our module and I do
hope you understand our topic. Planning data collection
procedure is as easy as pie if you were able to know your
research needs, samples, and instruments to be utilized.

1. Quantitative Data Collections Instruments are the following:
 Test – respondents perform behavior designed to measure their ability or degree
of skill.
 Questionnaires – a paper containing series of questions formulated for an
individual and independent answering by several respondents.
 Interviews – it is a set of questions, only that, this time, you do it orally. You talk
to respondents in person or in telephone.
 Archives or Secondary data – used existing data for a different purpose.
 Experiment – a scientific method of collecting data whereby you give the subjects
a sort of treatment or condition.
