Lesson Plan in Earth and Life Science

Performance Standard :The learners shall be able to make a presentation of some diseases that
are associated with the various organ systems.
Learning Competency: • describe the general and unique characteristics of the different organ
systems in representative animals (S11/12LT-IIIaj-20 and S11/12LT-IIIaj-21)
I – OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
1.identify the different organ systems in representative animals

2. Appreciate the importance of different function organ systems in representative animals

3. Explain the functional relationship of the different function of organ systems in ensuring animals
survival.
II – SUBJECT MATTER:
• Topic Organ Systems of Representative Animals
• Reference file:///C:/Users/USER/Downloads/Teaching_Guide_for_Senior_High_School_DI.pdf Earth
and Life Science
Earth and Life Science (MUTYA K-12)
Earth and Life Science Module
III – LEARNING TASKS:
Health Protocols: facemask, social distancing, handwashing
Review: Cross word puzzle(cell, tissue, organs, muscular, skeleton)

MOTIVATION (2 MINS) Video Showing 1. Show the learners a video of the long term effects of
coronavirus in human body and systems.
Statistics shows 111 million worldwide infected with coronavirus(covid-19). Try to compare this COVID-19
to a congested and more populated area to a less populated place.
1. Let them observe effects of coronavirus in human body and organ systems.
2. What do you think you are going to do in order to prevent the spread of covid-19?
 Activity :RUBRICS
Group the students into 2 groups. Let them perform a Zumba. Each group will pick a song from the
prepared music by the teacher then the group will be rated by the other group using the prepared rubrics.
 Analysis

1. What do you think is the most important organ system in body? Why?
2. How do they all function together?
3. How do we protect and care this organ system?
4. What are the different organ system in the body involve in physical exercise?
5. What happen to this organ system during physical exercise? (Muscular system Respiratory system
Digestive system Skeletal system Nervous system Circulatory system Endocrine system
Immune system Urinary system)
 Abstraction - The following are the concepts:
1. Digestive System
Animal nutrition is the process of taking in, taking apart and taking up the nutrients from the
food source.
2. Respiratory System
Gas exchange is very important animals, as they require oxygen in the production of higher
amount of energy compared to process of energy production without oxygen
3. Circulatory System
4. There are different ways in which animals transport substances across their body. In animals
with closed circulatory system, the circulatory fluid does not go out of the vessel.
5. Urinary System
In order to remove wastes, animals have the excretory system, which enables it to remove excess
salt or water in the body.
6. Immune System
Defends the internal environment from invading microorganisms and viruses, as well as
cancerous cell growth.
7. Endocrine System
Hormones are substances which can cause a reaction to a cell, in Greek it literally means to
excite.
8. Nervous System
The central nervous system is composed of the brain and spinal cord, while, the peripheral
nervous system is composed of corresponding structures outside of this two organs of the
nervous system.
9. Muscular System
The skeletal muscle is organized from its largest structure (the muscle tissue itself) to its
functional unit (the sarcomere) as a repeating longitudinal structure that is bound together.
10. Skeletal System
It provides support and protection, and attachment points for muscles. The skeletal system
provides rigid framework for movement.
 Application:
1. How does the health of one of the organ system impact thr health of the other organ system? Cite an example.
2. How does our lifestyle impact our body systems and organs?
3. In your opinion, what is the most important organ system?
4. What can we do to take care of our bodies?
5. Which two organ systems bear major responsibility for ensuring homeostasis of the
internal environment?
IV – EVALUATION: Indicate which organ system will be primarily used in the following situation.
_____1. Prepare for a 5km run and eat lots of carbohydrates like rice to give you more
_____2. Your body temperature increase because of the virus
_____3. The class play “pass the message.”
_____4. You can move your arms in a full range of motion.
_____5. Female tends to have a mood swing during the period.
_____6. You lift your feet and move your legs as fast as you can.
_____7. But you have to go to the bathroom because you drank too much water before the run.
_____8. Your breathing is getting faster and faster.
_____9. The heart is pumping fast as you sprint for the final 1km.
_____10. You enjoy attending the Zumba activities.
