Lab #1 – Implementation of Logic Gates

Objective:
To correlate theoretical logic gates and logic diagrams with a computer simulation

Parts used:
• LabVIEW

Lab Procedure:
1. Access LabVIEW through UTEP MyApps (Citrix client).

2. Use components in LabVIEW to connect input signals A and B by connecting “control” inputs
and showing the result in a logic “indicator”. Then make the proper virtual connections in the
block diagram.

3. Wire up one of the AND gates, using switches (controls in the front panel) for inputs, and an LED
(indicator in the front panel) to display the output. The wired circuit is shown below, in Figure 1.

4. Simulate your circuit by representing the closed switch with “1” and the open switch with a “0.”
Create a table, (i.e. flip the switches) to obtain all the possible combinations of inputs. Output
should be read by the behavior of the LED and annotated as Output on your table.

5. Repeat the process in steps #2 and #3, using one of the OR gates on the block diagram.

6. Repeat the process in steps #2 and #3, using one of the INVERTER gates on the block diagram
(there should be only 1 input for the inverter).

Documentation:
1. Record a short video clip demonstrating your lab work and submit it in the Demo Video assign-
ment on Blackboard. Detailed instructions can be found on Blackboard.

2. Complete the lab report assignment for this lab on Gradescope. You may need to include screen-
shots of your designs, and results within that assignment.
