ABSTRACT
“A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURED
TEACHING PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING JUVENILE
VISION IMPAIRMENT AMONG SCHOOL GOING CHILDREN (BETWEEN
THE AGE GROUP OF 10-12 YEARS) IN VRAJBHOOMI ENGLISH
MEDIUM SCHOOL AT RAJKOT.”

The improvement of knowledge regarding juvenile vision impairment due to

television watching among the school going children between the age group of 10-
12 year has an important role in effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme
the objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of Structured Teaching
Programme on Knowledge regarding juvenile vision impairment among the school
going children.
The Research Design adopted was One pre test post-test design. The study has been
conducted in a Vrajbhoomi English Medium School, at Rajkot
Non probability convenient sampling technique was been adopted to select desired
samples. The sample size was 50. As a part of the intervention Structured Teaching
Program benefits the knowledge regarding juvenile vision impairment among the
school going children.
The data were analyzed by using both the descriptive and inferential statistical
method paired “t” test was used to evaluate the effectiveness of Structured Teaching
Program on Knowledge regarding to juvenile vision impairment.
Keywords: Effectiveness, Structured Teaching Program, juvenile vision
impairment

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

It is believed that exposure to TV is making children over smart & insolent. In their
early age of childhood they need to take more care & moral department is one of the
most important forms. Today children spend more time viewing the TV rather than
spending time with their parents & going out. In an era of globalization, media &
popular culture have shattered all the national boundaries & a new culture has reached
to the remote areas of India. Unquestionably the local culture has been intermingling
with the western culture. And this transformation is influencing the moral values of
our children.
Watching TV varies with the age group of children in India. As children grow up they
watch more TV. Most of the children prefer watching programmes with lighting scene
& music. Children often imitate the lifestyle & fashion of their favourite hero &
heroine. Children with middle class background are found to be light viewers when
compared with the children of higher & lower economic background. most of the
children demand from their parents the products that they watch in TV.
Nowadays TV influences the lives of young children & it is only going to get worst
with each passing year. Children are great fan of the TV. They try to act & copy what
they watch on TV. Many children also got injured while imitating their super heroes.
In terms of regional differences, the prevalence of distance vision impairment in low
and middle income region is estimated to be four times higher than in high income
regions.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the study are to,
1. To assess the Pre-test level of knowledge regarding juvenile vision
impairment among school going children (between the age group of 10-12
years) in a Vrajbhoomi English Medium School at Rajkot.
2. To assess the Post-test level of knowledge regarding juvenile vision
impairment among school going children (between the age group of 10-12
years) in Vrajbhoomi English Medium School at Rajkot.
3. To assess the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program on juvenile
vision impairment among school going children (between the age group of
10-12 years) in Vrajbhoomi English Medium School at Rajkot.
4. To find out the level of association between post-test knowledge and their
selected demographic variables.

HYPOTHESES
H1: There will be a significant increase in the post-test level of knowledge .
H2: There will be a significant association between post-test level of knowledge and
their selected demographic variables.

ASSUMPTIONS
1. School going children may not have much knowledge regarding juvenile vision
impairment.
2. Education regarding juvenile vision impairment may help them to gain knowledge
regarding juvenile vision impairment.
3. Knowledge regarding juvenile vision impairment may help them to prevent
juvenile vision loss to a great extent.
METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH APPROACH
Quantitative research approach

RESEARCH DESIGN
Pre- experimental research design (one group pre test post-test design)

VARIABLES
Independent variable: Structured Teaching Program and demographic variables.
Dependent variable: Knowledge regarding juvenile vision impairment.

RESEARCH SETTING
The study was conducted in Vrajbhoomi English Medium School at Rajkot.

POPULATION
Target population: School going children, at Rajkot.
Accessible population: School going children in Vrajbhoomi English Medium
School, at Rajkot.

SAMPLE
Sample size: The sample selected for the study consist of 50 school going children.
Sampling technique: The sample will be selected using non probability convenience
sampling.
Data collection tool: A Structured Questionnaire is used to collect data from sample.
Data analysis: The obtained data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential
statistic and interpreted in terms of objective and hypothesis of the study.
RESULT
In pre-test school going children had inadequate knowledge with the mean of 8.3
where in post-test there was a significant knowledge gain mean of 23.28. A
significant association was found between sources of previous knowledge and post-
test knowledge level.

CONCLUSION
This study is about the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program on knowledge
regarding juvenile vision impairment after conducting the teaching program the
students got knowledge regarding the causes of the vision impairment how to prevent
it this will help them from preventing juvenile vision impairment in future.
