Explanations:
1. Let the amount deposited in each bank A and bank B be Rs. ‘x’

Statement I :

Interest obtained by scheme B = Rs. 720

So, interest obtained by scheme A = 720 – 144 = Rs. 576

So, statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement II :

Let the rate of simple interest offered by bank A and bank B be 4y% and 5y%, respectively

So, statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

On combining both the statements, we get,

Let the amount deposited in each bank A and bank B be Rs. ‘x’

Interest obtained by scheme B = Rs. 720

So, interest obtained by scheme A = 720 – 144 = Rs. 576

Let the rate of simple interest offered by bank A and bank B be 4y% and 5y%, respectively

Thus, the data even in both Statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.

Hence, option E is correct.

2. Statement I :

Let, selling price of the article = Rs. x

Discount = 50%

x
Marked price of the article = = Rs.2x
0.5

2
Cost price of the article = of 2x = Rs.0.8x
5

Profit earned = x – 0.8x = Rs. 0.2x

0.2x
Profit percentage = × 100 = 25%
0.8x

So, statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Statement II :

Let, selling price of the article = Rs. x

1
Profit earned = of x = Rs.0.2x
5

Cost price of the article = x – 0.2x = Rs.0.8x

0.2x
Profit percentage = × 100 = 25%
0.8x

So, statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Thus, the data either in Statement I or in Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.

Hence, option C is correct.

3. Statement I :
Ratio of profit share of Shobhit to total profit = 2000 : 6000 = 1 : 3

So, ratio of initial investment of Shobhit to sum of initial investment of all three will be 1 : 3,
respectively.

1
Therefore, initial investment of Shobhit = × 3000 = Rs.1000
3

So, statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Statement II :
Let, initial investment of Rohit and Shobhit be Rs. 4x and Rs. 5x respectively.

So, initial investment of Mohit = Rs. 5x + 200

So, statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Thus, the data in Statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement II
alone are not sufficient to answer the question

Hence, option A is correct.

4. Statement I :

Time taken by pipes A and B together to fill the tank = 24 minutes

So, statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement II:

960
Time taken by pipe B to fill the tank = = 40 min
24

So, statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

On combining both the statements, we get,

1 1 1
+ =
A B 24

1 1 1
+ =
A 40 24

1 1 1
= –
A 24 40

1 5–3
=
A 120

1 2
=
A 120

A = 60 minutes

40
So, time taken by pipe C to fill the tank = = 80 minutes
0.5

60 × 80
Therefore, reqd. time = = 240 minutes
80 – 60

Thus, the data in both Statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

Hence, option D is correct.

5. Let the quantity of milk and water in the vessel be 5x litres and 4x litres, respectively.

So, capacity of vessel = 5x + 4x = 9x litres

Statement I :

15% of the mixture = 0.15 × 9x = 1.35x litres

5
So, quantity of milk taken out = × 1.35x = 0.75x litres
9

4
So, quantity of water taken out = × 1.35x = 0.6x litres
9

According to the question,

5x – 0.75x 17
=
4x – 0.6x + 1.35x 19

So, statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement II :

5x 4
=
4x + 90 5

25x = 16x + 360

9x = 360; x = 40

So, capacity of vessel = 9 × 40 = 360 litres

So, statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Thus, the data in Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement I
alone are not sufficient to answer the question.

Hence, option B is correct.

6. Let amount invested in S2 = Rs. X
15
Distance to be carry the goods as three workers = = 5 km
3

Since, to carry goods 5 km as per Harbhajan’s wages, he will get Rs.9 for 4 km and for the next 1 km
13.50 – 9.00
he will have to get Rs. × 1 = Rs. 1.50
7–4

Wages as per Harbhajan’s wages = Rs. (9.00 + 1.50) = Rs.10.50

24.25 – 14.50
Wages as per Ravindra’s wages = Rs. 14.50 +
7–4
= Rs.(14.50 + 3.25) = Rs.17.75

31.00 – 19.00
Wages as per Dravid’s wages = RS. 19.00 +
7–4
= Rs.(19.00 + 4.00) = Rs.23.00

Total Wages of Ram ji = Rs.(10.50 + 17.75 + 23.00) = Rs.51.25

Hence, option (D) is correct.

7.
13.50 – 9.00
Wages for 6 km = Rs.9 + × 2 = Rs.(9.00 + 1.50 × 2) = Rs.12.00

33.25 – 24.25
Wages for remaining distance = Rs. 24.25 + × 2 = Rs.30.25
7–4

Total wages given by Khan to worker = Rs.(12.00 + 30.25) = Rs.42.25

Hence, option (A) is correct.

8. Harbhajan’s Wages for 8 km

17.25 – 13.50
= 13.50 + × 1 = (13.50 + 1.25)
10 – 7

33.25 – 24.25
Ravindra’s Wages for 8 km = Rs. 27.25 = 24.25 + × 1 = (24.25 + 3.00)
10 – 7

Required Difference = Rs. (27.25 – 14.75) = Rs.12.50

Hence, option (E) is correct.

9.

11. Let the price of the egg pack be Rs. E

Then, number of packs bought = (E + 1).

Hence the total cost is E (E + 1).

It is given that 380 < E (E + 1).

If E = 19, the total cost = 19(20) = Rs.380

Shawag would not have fallen short. If E = 20,

E(E + 1) = 20(21) = 420, and he would have fallen short by Rs40

This is the minimum amount by which he may have fallen short

Hence, option C is correct.

12. As the cost price of one litre of Petrol = Rs100, cost price of 6 litres = Rs600.

∴ Selling price of 8 litres = Rs.800

Let the cost of one litre of Kerosene be Rs.x

cost price (100 + profit percentage)

Selling price =
100

800
800 = (600 + 2x) ⇒ x = 50
7(100)

As the cost price of one litre of Diesel = Rs.200, cost price of 6 litres = Rs1200.

∴ Selling price of 8 litres = Rs.1600

Let the cost of one litre of Kerosene be Rs.y.

cost price (100 + profit percentage)

Selling price =
100

(1200 + 2y)(120)
1600 =
100

y = 66.66

Required difference = 66.66 – 50 = 16.66 ~ 17

Hence option C is correct.

13. Since the gents should not be outnumbered,

The number of ladies can at the most be equal to the number of gents so,

The possibilities are:

6 gents, 0 ladies 6C67C0 = 1(1) = 1

5 gents, 1 ladies 6C57C1 = 6(7) = 42

4 gents, 2 ladies 6C47C2 = 15(21) = 315

3 gents, 3 ladies 6C37C3 = 20(35) = 700

Total number of ways = 1,058

Hence option B is correct.

19. Let’s assume that the ages of P, Q and R are p, q and r years respectively.

We know that,
Sum of all quantities
Average =
Number of quantities

Sum of age of people

Average of age of people =
Number of people

∵ Average of P and Q is 20 years,

⇒ p + q = 20 × 2 = 40 ….(i)

∵ Average of R and Q is 21 years,

⇒ q + r = 21 × 2 = 42
⇒ q = (42 – r) ….(ii)

∵ Average of P and R is 22 years,

⇒ p + r = 22 × 2 = 44
⇒ p = (44 – r) ….(iii)

Now, substituting the values of p and q from Equations (ii) and (iii) in Equation (i),
∴ (44 – r) + (42 – r) = 40
⇒ 86 – 2r = 40
⇒ 2r = 46 ⇒ r = 23
∴ p = 44 – r
⇒ p = 44 – 23 = 21
Also, q = 42 – r
⇒ q = 42 – 23 = 19
Hence, option B is correct.
20. Distribution by Nita, All the amounts are in rupees. If the first beggar get x,
Then the second beggar gets x + 1
Third beggar gets = 2x + 1 + 2 = 2x + 3
Fourth beggar gets = 4x + 4 + 3.
Fifth beggar gets = 8x + 11 + 4 = 8x + 15

Given 8x + 15 = 93
78
⇒x=
8

78
∴ Total distributed amount = 16x + 26= 16 (
8)
+ 26 = 182

Distribution by Nita’s husband, all the amounts are in rupees. If the first beggar get x,

Then the second beggar gets x + 1

Third beggar gets = x + 1 + 2 = x + 3
Fourth beggar gets = x + 3 + 3 = x + 6
Fifth beggar gets = x + 6 + 4 = x + 10

Given x + 10 = 100 ⇒ x = 90

∴ Total distributed amount = (x) + (x + 1) + (x + 1 + 2)(x + 1 + 2 + 3)(x + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4)

= (5x + 20) = (450 + 20) = 470

Hence total amount distributed = (182 + 470) = Rs. 652

21. Let the total initial cost of the shoe be 100.

∴ Manufacturing cost = 60

∴ Raw materials cost = 40

Also original selling price = 100 + 20 = 120

New raw materials cost = 40 + 20% of 40 = 48

New manufacturing cost = 60 + 30% of 60 = 78

∴ New cost of the product = 126

New selling price = 120 + 70% of 120 = 204

38. The amounts that change hands at the end round are in terms of the fractions (1/6), (1/3) And (1/2).
Hence, if the initial amounts are represented as multiple of the LCM of 6, 3 and 2, the calculation
become simple.

LCM of 6, 3 and 2 is 18

It is also given that the amounts are in the ratio of 4 : 3 : 2

Thus, they can be conveniently represented as (4 × 18 × p), (3 × 18 × p) and (2 × 18 × p),

Where p is the constant of proportion

i.e. the amounts are (72p), (54p) and (36p) for Amit Saha, Virat Kohli and Chetan Bhagat respectively.

The situation at the start as well as ends of each round is given below

Round number Amit Saha Virat Kohli Chetan Bhagat

End of 3 round 29p 42p 91p

Hence the required ratio is (29p + 42p) : 91p = 71p : 91p = 71 : 91

Hence, option (A) is correct.

39. Let the number of Aircraft, BMW and Audi bought by Mahendra Rajapaksa be x, y and z respectively

According to question:

x + y + z = 15 …..(i)

8x + 3y + 4z = 68 ….. (ii)

From (ii) – (i) ×4, we get

4x – y = 8 ……. (iii)

From (iii),

When y = 0 then x = 2

So, z = (15 – 2 – 0) = 13 (from (i))

The other solutions are obtained by adding 1 repeatedly to x

When x = 3, y = 4 (from (iii))

So, z = (15 – 3 – 4) = 8

When x = 4, y = 8 (from (iii))

So, z = (15 – 4 – 8) = 3

When x = 5, y = 12

So, z = (15 – 5 – 12) = – 2 (which is not possible)

Now, calculated results are given in following table

X 2 3 4
Y 0 4 8
Z 13 8 3

Since he bought at least one of each thing and more BMW than Audi,

So, third column of above table is fulfilling the required condition.

Thus, he bought 4 Aircrafts, 8 BMWs and 3 Audis.

Hence number of Aircraft = 4

Therefore, option (B) is correct.

40. The required probability will be given by

First is a woman and Second is a man OR

First is a man. And Second is a woman OR

First is a woman and Second is a woman

5 8 8 5 5 4
I.e. × + × + ×
13 12 13 12 13 12

100 25
= =
156 39

Alternatively, we can define the non-event as : There are two men and no women. Then, probability of
the non-event is

8 7 56
× =
13 12 156

(156 – 56) 100 25

Hence, P(E) = = =
156 156 39
Hence, option B is correct.
