b) Title of the video you chose to watch: Using Blended Learning to Teach Cursive

c) URL of the video you chose to watch:

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with: This video shows a teacher named Susan Bouslough from Myers

Elementary School using Blended Learning using devices such as iPads for the students to

individually watch lessons created by her. She is able to walk around and help the students while

they are on their iPads watching a video she created for them about learning cursive. The school

is trying to find ways to utilize more technology around the school which keeps students engaged

and involved. It teaches students fine motor skills, while using guided notes. Students can work

at their own pace independently, and when they’re finished, students can meet with a peer and

give each other advice and appraise. After they meet with a peer, and fix the things they need to

fix, they meet with the teacher and can move on to the next letter they are learning. I agree that

using this kind of learning is beneficial to the teacher and the students.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

Alternate Assignment For Field Observations Page 3

1. How could this type of blended learning work with older students in middle school and

high school?

2. What are the advantages of using this kind of blended learning style?

3. How could you, as teachers, create more educational videos like these for your students?

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with: This video is about students in Myers Elementary School who are

working at their own pace after the pandemic and having a learning gap. It talks about the

different approaches that the teachers take to meet the needs of every student. Grades K-12 have

been using the self paced model. There are 3 components to the model which consist of blended

instruction, self-paced structure, and mastery-based grading. Students only work on content that

they are ready for, which helps the teacher read their students better. Each child has their own

individualized road map that helps them succeed. The teacher also uses a tool called a Pacer

Track which helps the students monitor their own progress within the classroom.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. How would this type of learning be beneficial in the long run?

2. How could teachers make these kinds of lessons more engaging?

3. How would the results of this type of learning help with older grades?

c) URL of the video you chose to watch:

https://www.edutopia.org/video/60-second-strategy-ask-3-me

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with:

This video is about when students face challenges or get stuck, aka a roadblock, and need help in

the classroom, they are supposed to ask 3 peers before asking the teacher. This kind of teaching

creates room for the teacher to continue instructional time instead of being interrupted multiple

times. If the three peers can not help with the issue, then the student having a roadblock will then

ask the teacher for help. It helps students and encourages them to cooperate with their peers, and

communicate with one another instead of always asking for adult help.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. How could this style of teaching be helpful?

2. What type of approach would you use to help students?

3. What else could the teacher do besides having a student ask 3 peers first?

https://www.edutopia.org/video/sensory-room-helping-students-autism-focus-and-learn

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE

This video is about having a safe space where students who have Autism can stay active and

keep themselves busy if they need a break away from learning. This type of sensory room meets

their individual needs, and helps the students focus, which in return makes it easier for them to

learn. They deserve to have an education just like the rest of their classmates throughout the
Alternate Assignment For Field Observations Page 6

school. Students with Autism have difficulty learning and may have different behaviors because

they lack the communication skill needed. Having a sensory room is a great idea for not only the

students, but for the teacher as well. It gives the teacher a little break and helps the student be

able to calm themselves down. I agree that having this kind of room is extremely beneficial for

students with Autism and love that they created different sensory items that the students can

choose.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. How do you think students with Autism make it in the real world without a sensory

room?

2. What other things could a sensory room have that would help the students?

3. What else could a student with Autism do in order to calm themselves within the

classroom if the sensory room is not available or is in use?

Alternate Assignment For Field Observations Page 7

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with:

This video is about students at Fall-Hamilton Elementary who need extra support like social,

emotional and academic. They are able to be paired with a teacher that is NOT theirs, and will

check in with their mentor every day in the beginning of school and at the end for 2 minutes.

They discuss their goals and sometimes will have worksheets. This is a great way to teach

children social and emotional ways of communicating. I think it is a great way for students to

learn communication skills with their peers as well, and love the idea of having individual goals

and incentives to reward them.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. Could this style of support system work with older students?

2. What else could a student be rewarded after meeting their daily goals?

3. How else could this system be rewarding for students?

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with:

This video teaches and celebrates kindness using a pom-pom jar as a reinforcement and helps

students do kind things and be rewarded. When the jar gets full, students are able to earn a

reward like a party for the whole class. I think this type of incentive is a great idea and I agree

with keeping things positive in a classroom environment. I feel it helps keep the classroom

calmer and more peaceful throughout the day when students are doing acts of kindness. I would

definitely use this kind of incentive for my future classes and even my students that I have to this

day.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. What else can be used instead of pom-poms?

2. What other rewards can be used instead of a party?

3. How could you use this style of incentives in your classroom?

Alternate Assignment For Field Observations Page 9

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with:

This video is about teachers using self regulations within their classroom. When a teacher is calm

and self-regulates, it teaches the students that it is an important way to manage their emotions.

When teachers change the sounds of their voices, it can be intimidating to students and might

escalate the issues. I agree that this type of self-regulation is a good skill to have for a teacher.

When it is a calm environment, things run smoother, and it is easier for the teacher to stay calm

and assertive throughout the day.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. How would this type of teaching be beneficial in the long run?

2. Could this style of teaching work amongst adults?

3. How does staying calm when speaking to a child help them understand

lessons/assignments?

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with:

This video is about how preschoolers can better understand boundaries with their peers.

Although the setting is in a Preschool classroom, it can still be used with the older students.

Students learn that gentle touches and having eye-to-eye contact helps make a safe connection

with their peers. Gentle touches and hugs are ways they can connect as well. This type of

learning would be beneficial for the students that I have now since I work in a Pre-K classroom

with over 30 students. I could definitely put this in a lesson when we teach about emotions.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. What kind of connections do you think are important for children to learn?

2. How can you use this lesson with your students?

3. If you could change one thing from this video for your own class, what would you

change?

Alternate Assignment For Field Observations Page 11

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with:

This video is about the approaches teachers use to make students feel safe and improve their

success in school. Not every child experiences the same challenges in life and not one child faces

the same situations outside of school. It is important for teachers to understand and support the

needs of their students, and their mental health needs as well. Programs like The Leader In Me,

help teach students learn important life habits, and build leadership skills. I agree with having

programs like this in schools, and love having it in the school that I work at as well. We’ve been

using The Leader In Me for 3 years now and it has been very helpful with keeping our school on

track.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. Why is The Leader In Me a helpful program?

2. How could you use this program in your classroom?

3. Is there another way to teach your students about important life skills?

d) Minimum one paragraph summary that details what you WATCHED, LEARNED, and

AGREE/DISAGREE with:

This video is about teachers at Lister Elementary School helping their students take charge of

their own reactions when it comes to situations. They learn about family social and emotional

lessons that their families weren’t taught when they were their age. Teaching strategies like that

are important when it comes to life lessons and I think that it is a great idea for every student to

learn. Learning which problems need more attending to and putting the effort in fixing those

problems on their own teaches them basic life skills that they will continue onto adulthood.

e) Three OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:

1. How could you use this lesson in your classroom?

2. How will this work with older students?

3. How does this lesson help students compare everyday problems to those in the

classroom?
