Instrument Approach Checklist Series


Vectored ILS Approach Procedure – Garmin 530 and KFC-150 Fully Coupled Autopilot

(PIC Responsible for Accuracy)

1) Terminal Area Configuration. 120 KT AIRSPEED within 10 miles of airport. 18-20” MP. 2300 RPM. Flaps 10.

2) GMX200 – Select MAP page with appropriate range. Verify XM satellite weather radar on display.

3) GPS Steer Selector – HEADING.

4) Autopilot – Heading ON, Altitude ON, Yaw Damper ON, Flight Director ON, and Autopilot ENGAGED.

5) FOLLOW ATC VECTORS with HSI heading bug to initial approach fix/course. Establish ALTITUDE HOLD below GS.

6) G530 – Select desired ILS APPROACH via VECTORS-TO-FINAL. Activate ILS Approach. Confirm proper approach path
displays on G530 and GMX200.

7) G530 – Activate VLOC mode with CDI button. Activate ILS localizer freq on NAV1.

8) G530 – Verify proper localizer IDENT code on NAV1 via display and audio. Select TAS TRAFFIC display. 6 mile range.

9) HSI – Set yellow CDI for ILS final approach course. Use orange heading bug to follow ATC vectors.

10) Backup CDI - Set CDI for ILS final approach course.

11) King NAV/COM - Select proper ILS LOCALIZER on NAV2. Verify NAV2 localizer audio IDENT.

12) Audio Panel – Marker Beacon Select ON (indicator light on). Select desired volume.

13) Brief MISSED approach procedure. Follow ATC vectors to join LOCALIZER final approach course.

14) Autopilot – Select APPROACH when Localizer is active and CLEARED by ATC. Confirm APPROACH capture (no blink).

15) Autopilot – Confirm both APPROACH and GS solid indicators (no blink) after passing through glide slope.

16) GUMPFRT (rhymes with comfort). Gas, Undercarriage, Mixture, Prop, Flaps, Rudder Trim

17) BRAKE check. LOCALIZER and GS CROSS CHECK of primary HSI and backup CDI.

18) If FULL DEFLECTION of primary or backup GS/LOC indicators – Execute MISSED APPROACH.

19) Autopilot – Full DISCONNECT at DH. RED button on yolk. Confirm ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS OUT on autopilot.

20) Land smoothly and enjoy cocktail!

21) If MISSED – Confirm G530 SUSP mode after MAP. Press OBS to activate navigation to HOLDING. Re-tune NAV2 if needed
for radial intercept.

22) IF MISSED – Adjust FD via CWS when clean and established in climb. ENGAGE Autopilot. Navigate to HOLDING fix.

Vectored GPS/RNAV Approach Procedure – Garmin 530 and KFC-150 Fully Coupled Autopilot

1) Terminal Area Configuration. 120 KT AIRSPEED within 10 miles of airport. 18-20” MP. 2300 RPM. Flaps 10.

2) GMX200 – Select MAP page with appropriate range. Verify XM satellite weather radar on display.

4) Autopilot – Heading ON, Altitude ON, Yaw Damper ON, Flight Director ON, and Autopilot ENGAGED.

6) G530 – Activate GPS mode with CDI button.

7) G530 – Select desired RNAV APPROACH and RNAV initial approach fix. Activate RNAV approach. Confirm proper
approach path displays on G530 and GMX200.

8) GPS Steer Selector – GPSS when cleared to RNAV initial approach fix. Select TAS TRAFFIC display and 6 mile range.

9) HSI – Set yellow CDI for RNAV final approach course. Use orange heading bug to follow ATC vectors.

10) Brief MISSED approach procedure. Confirm proper Aircraft navigation/turns to RNAV final approach course.

11) Autopilot – Select APPROACH when Localizer is active and CLEARED by ATC. Confirm APPROACH capture (no blink).

12) G530 – Confirm applicable RAIM and lateral/vertical indicators ON.

13) RNAV/LPV Approaches – Autopilot – Confirm both APPROACH and GS solid indicators (no blink) after passing through glide
slope.

14) GUMPFRT (rhymes with comfort). Gas, Undercarriage, Mixture, Prop, Flaps, Rudder Trim

15) BRAKE check. LOCALIZER and GS CROSS CHECK of primary HSI and backup CDI.

16) If FULL DEFLECTION of GS/LOC indicators on HSI – Execute MISSED APPROACH.
