The highly disciplined and codified stage art of ballet is based on a

the classical performance side with the most contemporary themes and
choreographic approches. The word Ballet was derived from the latin word
“BALLO”, which means “To Dance”.
2. MODERN DANCE:
Often refererred to a contemporary dance. This highly
individualistic and diverse form of artistic expression began as a rejection of
what its advocates condemned as the formalism and sterility of traditional ballet.
3. CLASSICAL DANCE:
These are dances with standardized rules and restrictions. The
dances are common among Asian countries where drama, music and dance are
closely interrelated. Relying on symbolic gestures, mask or elaborate make-up
and magnificent costumes. Classical dance often narrates stories based on
mythology, historical events and legends. Performances may last for many hours.
4. FOLK DANCE:
A participatory dance form, Folk Dance is usually performed by a
group consisting of members of a community, its steps and patterns are not
creation of an identifiable choreographer but are passed from one generation to
another. More speciafically, the term FOLK DANCE tends to apply to dances
originated by agricutural people for secular and sometimes ritual purposes.
5. ETHINIC DANCE:
This refers to the type of dance performed by specialized ethinic
groups. Such dances tend to be highly traditional linked directly to social
customs or religious practices and stylized in their movement and presentation.
6. BALLROOM DANCE:
The most widespread form of participating dance. Ballroom dance
ranges from the familiar social dances which were popular in the past decades,
such as the Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba or other Latin American steps, to
pulsating and physically exciting Rock & Roll or Discotheque dances.
7. EXERCISE DANCE:
This includes several forms of dance which are commonly
performed for fitness purposes but which contain elements that are distinctly
dance likes. Examples are Jazz-exercise, Aerobics and Zumba.
