Workflow
Have you ever selected a web page link and received an error? These errors are common and can
occur in places such as class syllabus, course websites, university informational pages, etc. Link
expiration is a significant problem for educational institutions. A solution to this issue is web-
archiving, a process that captures links and domain content to form a permanent web archive.
Web archiving is the process of gathering up data that has been recorded on the World Wide Web,
storing it, ensuring the data is preserved in an archive, and making the collected data available for
future research - -- Niu, J. (March/April 2012). "An overview of web archiving." D-Lib Magazine,
Vol. 8, 3/4.
The process allows for the capture and preservation of dynamic digital objects such as web pages,
social media pages, etc. Additionally, automated site supported crawls allow for capture of large
collections, allowing universities to collect and preserve web archives for research and educational
needs long term.
