Overview of the most common plywood sheets available on the German market

The following table has been arranged according to plywood manufacturers.

The mechanical strength properties contained in the PERI offer have been determined according to
DIN EN 789 insofar as no other reference is given. Details for the other providers were taken from
each respective company´s own documentation and converted the mentioned wood moisture content
and safety factor. They are to be checked during use or confirmed by the manufacturer. The table was
arranged to the best of the author´s knowledge; however, the details are not legally binding and are for
information purposes only.

The information provided is subject to fluctuations in the market and further development of each
product.

About the table:

Description / Structure: information on the basic type of plywood sheet in question as well as its
structure, bonding material and possible edge protection

Item no.: refers to the PERI internal item number

Dimensions: 1st figure = length = II grain direction of the face veneer

2nd figure = width = ⊥ grain direction of the face veneer

Flexural stress and The values were adopted from or determined based on the manufacturer´s
modulus of elasticity information. These correspond predominantly to a manufacturing moisture
content of 7 % to 9 % and the ultimate flexural stress. As a rule, standard
deviations have been taken into consideration.
The table values have been converted and refer to a wood moisture content of 20 % according to the
recommendations of the German Quality Protection Association for Concrete Formwork. For this, cor-
rection factors taken from the Finnforest plywood handbook were used.

Note: the given values are empirical which are to be regarded as average values. As timber products
are subject to strong natural fluctuations, the specific plywood sheet values of the respective manufac-
turer as well as the conditions on the construction site, handling and maintenance etc. are also to be
taken into consideration. In addition, the structure of some sheets (e.g. type and thickness of veneer)
can change which could result in different statical values.

If no specific details are available, the values indicated in the table can be used for roughly estimated
calculations. For a proven different wood moisture content in the plywood working conditions, the table
values can be corrected using the following factors.

Flexural stress: 15 % wood moisture content = correction factor approx. 1.14 (birch) 1.08 (spruce)
27 % wood moisture content = correction factor approx. 0.80 (birch) 0.87 (spruce)

Modulus of elasticity 15 % wood moisture content = correction factor approx. 1.08

27 % wood moisture content = correction factor approx. 0.87

The flexural strength σbieg is given in Value II (= long) and ⊥ (= transverse) grain direction of the face
veneer. A safety factor of 2.33 has been taken into consideration for the ultimate flexural stress.

The modulus of elasticity is given in Value II (= long) and ⊥ (= transverse) grain direction of the face
veneer.
